Grand Plans for Villa Park

Aston Villa will not be relocating like so many other English clubs have done, as Randy Lerner sets out his vision for the current stadium.

The Villa owner stated very frankly that no discussion or interest had cropped up regarding any move away and that they were actively looking at ways to improve the current stadium. Since purchasing the club 12 months ago, £13million has gone towards the impressive new training ground at Bodymoor and the refurbishment of the Holte Hotel. Following the completion of both projects, Lerner’s attention will now switch to the ground, and how the infrastructure can be improved though would not be drawn into specifics.

Speaking to avfc.co.uk Lerner remarked: 'We're considering it. I'd say we're focused internally on how we can upgrade Villa Park. It's premature to target any sort of area of the stadium at this point.

'We have begun to research with some firms of architects and businesses who come in and think about what you have, and how you may be able to upgrade or expand.

He added: “We're starting to get focused on how Villa and Villa Park stacks up in that light and starting to think about what we can do about it.”

Vital Villa member avfc48 suggested previously in his article 'Villa Park. Time To Move?' that the club may be interested in looking at a new stadium, however it appears that the management at Villa see the club remaining in the traditional home that is Villa Park.

Get rid of the north stand and create a new Nike North Stand - Re-name the DE stand to Randy Learner Stand
KSarge1
Glad we're staying put. There's too much history and too many memories to lose by moving.
The Usual Suspect
He'll never name the stand after himself, he is far too good a man to do that sarge.
The Fear
It would be nice if it got changed back to Witton lane stand, can't see Randy doing it though, not while dougs still about. as for the stadium. the north stand lets it down. i think if we redevelope the north stand and the surounding area behind, VP will be a top ground to play at.

change the DE stand to the Krulak Stand....!!!
industrial_musical
Just change the name - to whatever - just remove the eejits name.
The Usual Suspect
Good to know Randy and the boards line of thinking on this one. Always an interesting topic for discussion, ground re-development, relocation etc. etc.

rebuild the North stand but dont fill in the corners, that is part of villas tradition and I want Villa Park to be the last old open square style in the prem.

Gotta love, Randy! What a legend... I love Villa Park and so does the man at the top. But why does it take a non-native to have a wider appreciation of our glorious past than that old codger who dined out on our illustrious name and fleeced it for all it was worth. Rename that stand!
Rawlie
I would not be surprised if Doug had some kind of clause that says the stand must keep his name until he dies. The ground already looks better IMO. The Holte (Hotel), The new signage above Trinity Road. The removal of all the cheap an nastyness. I have high hopes for the future aesthetic of VP.

The corners will definately be filled in at some stage, Will add to the atmosphere & allow more peeps into the ground

I think filling in the corners will take away from the villa park affect for example it wouldn't be the holte end any more.
villabikes29
While I agree with villabikes29, I think that filling in the corners will eventually very definitely take place. One plus from such a venture, it will certainly increase the volume level inside the stadium.
