The lovely Lisa Smith has an article in The Birmingham Post about the Randylution and the fact fans have been buying replica shirts in their droves. Over 25,000 home shirts to be exact.
Head of merchandising, John Greenfield said:
'As soon as we announced the deal with Nike, we felt a huge uplift in interest from supporters. They literally could not wait for the product to come in although, because of the lateness of the deal, we were unfortunately forced to keep them waiting.....And as soon as the official shirts went on sale, the demand was phenomenal - we took in excess of £100,000 in the Villa Village shop at the first home match of the season against Liverpool. That is 50 - 60 per cent up on anything we have ever done.'
He also says that sales overseas and USA have gone up adding, 'I have been at Villa for 25 years now and heading up this department for 15 years and I have never seen a demand like it - you really get the feeling now that Aston Villa is a club going places.'
He also says of the new Villa shop in New Street, 'We not only get supporters coming in but passing trade, too. Our next aim is to get a ticketing facility in there and work on getting more and more youngsters in. If we can get those children who haven't yet adopted a club to support Villa, rather than Chelsea or Manchester United, then the revolution really will be complete.'
