Villa Keeper Back Between The Posts

Villa Keeper Back Between The Posts

Thomas Sorensen is back in action tonight making his first appearance between the posts this season having recovered from a knee injury.

Sorensen, along with Curtis Davies and Stephen O'Halloran, will play in the reserves away game against Portsmouth. Sorensen says he is up for the challenge of getting his No1 place back. Hmmm, little to no chance of that I'd hazard a guess?

Thommo told the official site: 'I've said all along to everyone at Aston Villa that I'm here to fight for my place. I'm well aware of the situation. Scott has done well, but I have to work hard and wait for my chance. That's been the bottom-line. Obviously from my point of view, the most important thing is playing first-team football, that's no secret. But I'm not looking to leave the club to do that. That's never been my intention.'

Villa: Sorensen, Lund, O'Halloran, D.Bellon, Lowry, Davies, Y.Bellon, Hogg, Mikaelsson, Earls, Stieber. Subs: Albrighton, Bevan, Delfouneso, Collins, Clark.

So what do you think of Scott Carson so far and do you think Thommo will have a chance of getting his place back or will he be off on a free at the end of the season?

not much difference between the both of them haven't been particularly impressed by him.

Scott Carson will not be replaced between the posts this season, unless he gets injured. Sorensen's time at Villa has come to an end. He has upset MON and that is why he is playing reserve football. I cannot blame MON for doing this, as Sorensen seems to believe he is the best in the world and tried to engineer a move out of VP before the transfer deadline.

Been very impressed with Carson. Wasn't a big fan of his last season as what I saw of him for Charlton he looked poor. Was dissapointed when we signed him but hes done well.

I think he needs to be more commanding in the box...... Carson that is.

Most players are greedy sos and so's, don't look beyond this. Sorenson is on the move as he's on relative peanuts and has not earnt the new contract he wants. Under the previous regime we would have paid this mediocre keeper to stay.

sorensen is s**t never liked him!

Carson went some way to proving to me that he should be our undisputed number one with his display at WHL on Monday night. Strange saying that when he conceded four goals, but its true. Not yet 100% convinced about him though, he still has to convince the vast majority of supporters that he should be our long term custodian. Even so, you cant help but believe that Tommy's days are over. Shame that, because he's not a bad keeper, far from it. I like him, believe he's served us well, and I certainly wish him good luck, no matter where he ends up.

Personally I've also rated him as a good keeper until he has to fight for the ball with crosses. Perhaps he's not brave enough or as Gregory once commented "he's too good looking to be the perfect keeper". Nevertheless he's been a great servant for the Club and I'm sure all the fans will wish him well when he goes, which will either be at the end of the season or poosibly before, in the next window.

Stuart Taylor too probably needs replacing. He never looks convincing to me, and even though he currently appears to be ahead of Tommy in the goalkeeping ranks, he's never going to be a long term number one here.
