'If It's Football, It's Vital'

A Fox Fan Hunting Down Shoot Out

1) So finally back to playing Premiership opposition, are you looking forward to the clash?

We've had some quite good results whilst in the Championship against Premiership opposition having managed to beat Charlton and Tottenham in recent seasons. We've come close as well against Fulham and of course last season against Villa. Those results have been quite welcome with not much in the league to cheer about, so I am looking forward to the match and hoping for another good game.

2) Do you have any optimism that you'll get a result against Villa on Wednesday night, you seem to have had a very mixed start in the league, is this a welcome distraction?

I'm always optimistic we'll get a good result in a one-off game, a lot of the players seem to respond to the occasion and put in some good performances. We've had a mixed start, not helped by changing the manager after 4 league games after our only league win to date! The squad has increased in size over the summer too which could explain the inconsistency. It's rumoured we might play a 3-5-2 so this could be a game where Megson decides to experiment a little bit with his tactics and selections.

3) What is your opinion of your new manager and what do you think about Martin O'Neill, is he the right man for Villa!?

No-one really knows why Martin Allen left the club as early in the season as he did. I think that Mandarics record with managers at Portsmouth and now at Leicester has meant that managers would think twice about taking the job which is a shame. Megson arrived with a reputation for being a bit negative and defensive but he did get WBA out of this league on two occasions. I'm prepared to give him some time.

MoN is a City legend. He took us to the final of this competition three times winning it twice, I can't believe he wasn't offered the England job after declaring he wanted it and I think that you've done well to manage to attract him to the club. He's a good manager and should get you into Europe before long.

4) What realistically do you expect from Leicester City over the next few years, is a return to the Prem on the cards?

Milan has stated that the aim is the premiership in 3 years, however the competition for promotion from the Championship is huge and the clubs coming down will always be favourites to go back up. Hopefully we can start to build a team that can take us back up there now that Milan is at the club.

5) What is your prediction for the game?

You might expect a weaker team from a Prem team in the early rounds of this cup, but MoN always fielded a strong team at City. I think he'll do the same as it's a possible route into Europe for you. With that in mind I think we will struggle. We almost took you to penalties last time round which we deserved to do, I'm going for 1-1 with City going through via a shootout.

With thanks to the new Vital Leicester editor George Gowers.

With MON returning I think the Leicester boys will be up for this one. Wouldn't be suprised if Villa field Harewood, Berger, Davis, Maloney, Gardner or Petrov to give some of the regulars a rest but we'll have to be sharp. Any complacency and we could be embarrised.

Was MON in charge of Leicester for the 4-4 horror show a decade (gulp) ago, after we were 4-1 up? Definitely going to put a couple of quid on Marlon to score the first goal...

I don't think is a banker by any means so we have to make sure we do the job we need to to get through.

JPF: my only question is whether we still need to ask every 'visiting fan' if he thinks MON is the man for the job at Villa. MON has been our manager for over a year now and is (except in certain quarters) doing a reasonable job here. That question makes it sound as if his appointment was controversial or dubious, when every visiting fan says the same thing -- we're lucky to have the man and they wish he was managing England. Even if you disagree with his buying and his tactics, he demonstrates dedication, determination and passion for his job, and for Villa. Does he have to win the Champions League before we accept him as one of our own?

It'll be close, of that I have no doubts. Wouldn't be at all surprised if it goes to extra-time, maybe even penalties. After three successive home wins we should be really up for it, no matter what team MON puts out, but we can rest assured that Leicester City aren't turning up for an evening out at a premiership club.

I think we are clearly the stronger side but there weren't any shocks last night and there is always in each early round fo the competition. Please don't let it be our turn boys... let the experienced boys show the younger confident guys not to be complacent.

no shoot out.......just the foxes getting hammered and knocked out.....UTV

a real potential bannana skin here, but mon will get it right, he knows all about the competition and what is required. Cant wait, you cant beat wednesday night cup games at villa park, always a good and slightly different atmos to league games.

Megson will do a good job for them I think. he's used to working with whats available to him, not splashing the cash, and he knows what it takes to get a team up out of the Championship. If he can work with the owner that is.
