'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The Incredible Hulk - Apparently

John Carew has an anxious wait to see how bad his injury is. The scorer of the first goal for Villa v Everton yesterday later pulled up with a knee injury and had to hobble off the pitch in what appeared to be considerable pain.

He said after getting off the mark with his first goal of the season for Villa, 'This is a bad and stupid time to be injured for Villa and my national team. It's hurting and I'm worried it will take a long time to heal.'

Martin O'Neill said: 'You can do an awful lot of work as a centre-forward outside the penalty area, but you're there to get goals and he's off the mark now. Suddenly all that good work he has done for us, that seemingly has gone unnoticed, he'll start to think now that there is a bit of justice.'

How can a man the size of John Carew go unnoticed on the pitch? I think he gets the credit for what he does and if you read the lack of credit he has got this season you'll see what he has done!

O'Neill added, 'He did very well today and he put us on our way, but he is injured. I don't know how serious it is at the moment and the doctor's a bit concerned.'

Fellow striker Gabby is sure that Big John is set to take the Premiership by storm if his injury proves not too serious.

He told the official sit he was 'delighted that The Hulk got off the mark against Everton adding, 'Once you get that first goal, more will come and I'm sure that will be the case for John. He deserved the goal for all the work he does. As a striker you've got to anticipate things and he anticipated well for his goal. I was pleased for him. Hopefully now the injury won't be too bad.'

Dont make him angry (with a long injury), you wont like him when hes angry.
NY Villa
Just hope his knee hasn't turned green! It is a real blow if he is out though, looked like all he needed was a goal to get going, he got it then limped off. Looked really out of sorts all season, this won't help!
The Fear
We'll miss him if he's side-lined for a lengthy spell, a lot more I think than his detractors currently appreciate. A long term injury would be a severe blow, both for player and club.

I think that Carew is in some ways cursed to never be given full credit from the work he does. Villa's potency on the break is as much down to him as it is to folks like Ashley Young, who benefit from the space created by his movement and sheer presence. In my mind he has been a tremendous signing, although his fitness and finishing have been a little patchy to date.
madarab
I agree Madarab. Too many people have been on his back without noticing/understanding what he does to create space for Young, Gabby etc to operate. Every time he gets the ball he draws two, three, and four opponents towards him. He's been getting stick from the same folks who used to give Dion Dublin and Peter Withe a hard time because they didn't go past three defenders and rifle a shot into the top corner from 25 yards.......
gmvillan
completely off subject, but has anyone else got problems with crappy villa world?
Stig
If he could add more goals to his game, then we'd have quite a player on our hands.
