Martin Laursen Happy At Villa

Villa defender Martin Laursen wants to tie up his future at Villa after proving his fitness.

The Danish international and former AC Milan player, who has suffered a horrific time with injuries since his arrival to Villa Park , said 'I would like to stay here. I feel good, but nothing has happened yet.'

He says he doesn't think he'll make a four year contract but will aim for 2-3 years if offered.

He also says he had a discussion with Martin O'Neill before the end of last season explaining: 'He said he was happy with me and I told him that I am happy here as well. I like to play here. I like to play in England. It suits my game very much, so yes, we can talk about that.'

And on his injury problems he says: 'I feel good physically now, the knee feels good. Personally that is what I had hoped for this season, that I could be physically fit so that I could be available for every game. And if the gaffer wanted to play me then it was up to him.'

Adding on the future, 'I don't think we have to worry that much about the injury coming up again. I think it was a bad injury and you can get that, and that is it, we know I don't have a perfect knee but I think that everyone is very happy with my knee- the officials, my doctor, myself...I am fit now and I am playing now - so I don't think it will have to be written into a contract.'

I wouldn't bet on that, surely after such serious injuries it would be par for the course for terms to be added to the contract?

please let him stay injury free !!! I struggle to think of a better defender in the league to be honest !!

I would be happy playing for Villa and getting paid lots of money - in fact i would do it for free and keep my badly paid job. This guy if he stays injury free could be so important for us, and Davies to learn from. ITs all rather exciting.

Key figure for us, no doubt about it, and long may he remain injury free. A two year contract he may well get, but I'll be surprised if the club contemplate a three year deal.

He is the one other player Villa need fit all season with Martin and Gareth in the side you have always got players who can lead the others.

best defender i have seen at VP in a decade!

best since McGrath, by a mile.

Great player, but the knees are a problem. He does remind me of McGrath, does he like like Guiness? Perhaps that is the elixer written in the contract that he needs to keep his knees lubricated!

Agree that the central defence now consists of Martin l Laursen and a.n. other, but realistically how long will that scenario last. Time moves on, and surely Gary Cahill and possibly Curtis Davies are being groomed to replace him?
