Unoial Villa News...
West Brom Chairman Jeremy Pearce has explained the season long loan deal of Curtis Davies to Aston Villa was done - instead of a direct sale - for accounting and not football reasons.
Martin O'Neill has spoken about Norwegian international striker John Carew who has so far this season fired blanks. 'John has got a little bit of a groin problem and we were going to play him for as long as we could. Most strikers thrive on goals and once he gets off the mark for us I think he'll be fine. The last thing I like to hear is that he is doing great for Norway, I'm the club manager for Aston Villa and I'd like him to do brilliantly for us.'
Gary Cahill is in demand as a host of Championship clubs are trying to sign the 21-year-old Villa defender on loan. O'Neill told the official site: 'There's always the possibility these things, but it is delicate because we still don't have the biggest squad out there. But we still want the players to play some games, there's no doubt about that. There have been a number of teams who have enquired about Gary and I will give that consideration this week.'
The reserves play Derby County at Villa Park tonight at 7pm. Curtis Davies could feature and Patrik Berger is expected to make a return for the reserves having recovered from a hamstring injury he picked up in pre-season.
Marlon Harewood has had some good news about the injury he picked up in training. MON explained: 'Marlon feels half decent and we are now treating it as a lot of bruising around that area. So, though we're still cautious, it might not be the length of time out we first feared. That would be great news.' O'Neill also says the 28-year-old striker has been 'absolutely flying in training' adding they hope he won't be out of action for long. My cup runneth over.

Villa legend Ian Taylor says that Nigel Hokey-Cokey is just what Villa needed, 'He gives a real edge to the midfield. His battling qualities are second to none and I think the fans will really love him here. I think they've taken to him already and he's a good leader as well. He's a real leader out on the pitch and he's a voice. Hopefully he'll be a great asset to us for years to come.' Villa Legend Digs The Hokey Cokey.

Vital Villa, ahead of the clash v Manchester City this afternoon asked on behalf of villabikes29 After an impressive debut by Zat Knight, who should start v Man City? 88% said Zat Knight should get the nod! 12% wanted to see new signing Curtis Davies straight into the team following his recovery from injury.
Scott Carson says he has to keep being consistent for Villa to knock on the door for the England No1 jersey. 'There's no point in just sitting around settling for what I've got. I've got to work hard and hopefully I'll get my chance for England and show I'm up to the standard. There was obviously a little bit of hope I'd get my chance, but I think if the manager was going to change it he would have played David James. I don't think there is a big gap between all the keepers from Robert Green and Chris Kirkland to me, David James and Paul Robinson. I think I've got to keep putting in performances for Aston Villa and just get to that next level, which is being England No1.'
Leicester play Nottingham Forest tonight to see who will face Villa next Wednesday in the Carling Cup 3rd round.
Martin O'Neill has returned to the subject of our homesick Shaun Maloney and says he is hopeful he'll be able to settle and make an impact. 'I'm not here to imprison anybody, but by the same token, people sign contracts and for the most part, unless they've been really hard done by, they have to abide by these things.' Adding, 'So we'll monitor all these situations. I don't want life to be intolerable for people - but this is professional football, and it's far from intolerable.'
