Villa Defender Poll Result

Vital Villa, ahead of the clash v Manchester City this afternoon asked on behalf of villabikes29

After an impressive debut by Zat Knight, who should start v Man City?

With a massive majority of 88%, it seems Zat Knight should get the nod!

12% wanted to see new signing Curtis Davies straight into the team following his recovery from injury.

Our latest poll is asking for the man of the match v Man City. For me it can only be between Gareth Barry and Zat Knight who did put in a couple of very important interceptions and tackles.

I was watching Zat Knight carefully yesterday, and I felt that it was a shoddy follow-up to the Chelsea performance. His distribution from the back was sporadic at best. He seems to have Gavin McCann syndrome, thinking that he has a David Beckham-esque 50 yard cross field pass, when in fact he loses possession as two or three times i watched the ball sail 10feet above Ashley Young and Shaun Maloney's head, when we could have been setting up an attack. Defensively he looked shakey to me, and never looked comfortable in possession. Personally I'd like to see 9mil worth of defender start against Everton, because he obviously has more quality than Zat Knight, but for obvious reasons couldn't replace him after the Chelsea game. I think now, after yesterday's performance, MON has an excuse for dropping him. Maybe just me, but i wasn't impressed with Zat Knight yesterday.

Agree with above. MON made his changes too late aswell although they were the correct ones to make. Reo-Cokey was ineffective throughout the game and Svens line up should have been countered with another attacking midfielder instead. Also Barry has adapted (after playing for England) to playing much deeper and Nige's distribution is nowhere near good enough to play him in that role.

I think Bouma came back to have a good game for the villa after a few poor performances recently so he gets my vote.

Too many indifferent displays yesterday, its unfair to single out the strugglers, but definitely yes, there were more way below par performances on offer than we've witnessed for some time. What a way to throw away our impressive looking away record, dating back to another sub-standard showing, at Reading in early February.

I agree with villabikes29, Bouma was the best player for me too, and gets my vote. I personally think Bouma has been pretty faultless this season. He's put in solid performances each week, and is relishing the partnership with Ashley Young down the left.

Agreed gents. Freddie Bouma doesn't get the credit that I think he deserves, for his consistent week in/week out performances. He improved beyond recognition last season, and has carried on this season just where he left off last May.
