Football Life Far From Intolerable

Football Life Far From Intolerable

Martin O'Neill has returned to the subject of our homesick Shaun Maloney and says he is hopeful he'll be able to settle and make an impact.

On the reports that Maloney was due to return to Celtic barring the Villa managers approval, he retorted:

'That's absolutely not true - I've never received a phone call from Celtic about Shaun Maloney - ever. I don't know where it came from. But I understand the story doesn't read so great if it doesn't happen. The stories were mentioned to me on Monday and I saw the comments attributed to Shaun. It's absolutely no different to what he has already said to me.'

On the Scotland international, he added, 'I'm not here to imprison anybody, but by the same token, people sign contracts and for the most part, unless they've been really hard done by, they have to abide by these things. Shaun's done very well and I've been very pleased with him. He could easily have started against Chelsea after his efforts in first scoring the winner against Fulham, and then being our best player against Wrexham.'

And the last line really does make good reading and echoes what so many of us have said: 'So we'll monitor all these situations. I don't want life to be intolerable for people - but this is professional football, and it's far from intolerable.'

Lets face it, most of us would give an arm and a leg to be in Maloney's position. That said, if we gave an arm and a leg, we might actually have blown our chances ??

Lets hope come January Maloney will have had time to settle, he looks like he could be a star for us, would be awful for him to miss the chance.

I think there is far too much been written into his 'homesickness' much of it by the Scottish press trying to stir it. Let's just wait and see and hope that he settles...I think he will.

being on £25k a week, driving a Porsche and living in Hampton, Sutton, or Lapworth must be a real bitch.

"A few games and a few goals and he will sonn forget about how much he is missing his Haggis munching friends!" -- yes he will, if indeed he ever said any of the stuff in the press. Journalists really don't care very much whether there are any real stories out there -- why should they when they can make stuff up so easily?

Great player, could be massive for us, just needs to get his head down. the gutter rags in jockland arent helping either, blatently trying to disrupt the player. If he had any sense he should just come out and say I am a premiership player now, and an Aston Villa player and that is where I want to be.

Only time will tell whether or not Shaun's homesickness will scupper his chances of success in the premiership. Hopefully time will in this instance prove to be the great healer we are all assured that it indeed is, and before too long the strange city of Brum becomes more to the liking of our Scottish wizard. He doesn't help his cause by talking to the media about his club football when away on international duty, but I guess that if he is genuinely unhappy, then there isn't too much point in failing to respond truthfully when questioned. Sort yourself out laddie.

Apparently the scottish press are now trying to rake up a move back to Celtic for Petrov, what's going on?

Petrov back to Celtic and Maloney in the first team will both do for me. He is a class act and it could be a very silky Villa team that changed things round to accommodate him - maybe instead of Carew. Carew I like too, but more football on the floor could more suit Villa and unfortunately we can only play 11 players. Petrov we bought for 6.5M but they can gladly have him back for 5.6m (or even a bit less)!

Think positive Shaun. Looking at the negatives all of the time will only make matters worse. Buy a house down here, mix in, fit in, become part of the scenery. Dont throw away the opportunity to make a name for yourself south of the border.
