Villans Of England

Villans Of England

According to reports today, Villa skipper Gareth Barry should keep his place in the England starting 11 tomorrow night against Russia.

Apparently Owen Hargreaves has failed to recover from a thigh injury in time. To be fair, although I rate Hargreaves, I don't think Barry's place should have been under threat anyway, I can't see what more he could have done other than set up two of the three goals. His performance was great and was certainly noticed by more than the Villa fans.

Barry said of his partnership with Liverpool's Steven Gerrard, 'I'm not sure whether everybody knows what good friends we are off the pitch. The communication was there, we weren't strangers and that was the key to the partnership working. Balance is about working hard for each other - when one midfielder attacks, one defends.'

Meanwhile Craig Gardner, Luke Moore and Gabriel Agbonlahor could all be in action tonight as the England U21's take on Bulgaria.

Gabby scored one and set up one v Montenegro. Craig Gardner also played, filling in at right-back. Luke Moore didn't feature but maybe will get a chance tonight.

Carson...Davies, Knight, Cahill, Barry...Agbonlahor,Gardner, Reo-Coker, Young...Harewood, Moore...Subs Taylor, Osbourne...Not a bad side at all. Would finish about half way (or a little lower) in Premiership, AND ALL ENGLISH. Those of you old enough, do you remember in the late seventies the chants of 'VILLA FOR ENGLAND'

The second paragraph sums it up really. To be honest I would give Ash a run out in place of Joe Cole aswell. Not that I'm biased you understand (not!) but I think Ash and SWP on the wings would be pretty awesome for England.

Interesting comments from McClaren though, we may have to adapt our style to that of Israel, why do tell why? Why not play the same team same formation and let Guss Hiddink and the Russians do the worrying.

Good luck to all of the Villans away on international duty, and here's hoping they all return to Bodymoor Heath on Friday free from injury, and fit and raring to face Sven's lot on Sunday.

Good comment col8. Its all so obvious to everyone but the man who sadly matters, Steve McClaren. He makes the simple things so difficult.
