Sorensen Negotiates Move Via Press?

Sorensen Negotiates Move Via Press?

Villa's number one Thomas Sorensen certainly looks like he is trying to negotiate a move via the press.

The Denmark international, in the last year of his contract at Villa, is in a strop - despite not being available due to injury - because Martin O'Neill decided to bring in a third keeper. At the time of the loan signing of Scott Carson from Liverpool he was quoted as asking the manager why Villa needed another keeper when they have two perfectly good ones. He obviously forgot the situation last year when we ended up having to loan Gabor Kiraly from Palace. Sorensen's argument might have been a bit stronger if not for the fact he has not been available for selection at all so far this season and even Stuart Taylor was touch and go following a strain.

The 31-year-old shot stopper, who I think is a bit underrated as a keeper by some, told BT:

'For me the most important thing is to play, I will never choose a higher salary ahead of that. In case I don't play anymore at Aston Villa, I am willing to accept a salary reduction to find the right club.'

So no new contract for Thomas then me thinks!? I must admit I'm not mad keen on the fact we've had to borrow Carson, but having seen him play it is clear why he is so highly rated, lets just hope we can break the bank next summer and get him to Villa Park permanently.

Carson certainly fits the O'Neill model taking shape at Villa, being young, english and hungry to prove a point. It's a shame Tommy has reacted the way he has as he's not a bad keeper and should have enough confidence in himself to try to force his way back in. Still, hope MON has learned his lesson from the summer and keeps hold of Sorensen until the Carson deal has been finalised. Surely we must have first option....surely?....

Perhaps this situation indicates a problem we had at the club whereby too many players were guaranteed their place in the side and now MON has been able to introduce competition it highlights those players who are up for the challenge and those who aren't. Maybe that's why so many were shipped out before being replaced? I would imagine Sanchez pretty much guaranteed Davis and Hughes that they would start if fit. This also raises Harewood and Zat Knight in my estimation as they chose to join us after being made fully aware that they were joining a squad and would need to battle to get in the team. Two right backs and a left back in January would really make us into a force to be reckoned with in my opinion.

well said jon.h. I will personally drive Sorryson to the airport if this is how he is going to conduct himself in the media, has he been taking lessons from Maloney? Sorryson has hammered the final nails into his own coffin, I doubt we will see him in a villa shirt again. which isnt a bad thing considering his ***** poor kicking, ***** poor distribution, ***** poor defending from set pieces and corners, and his general ***** poor attitude.

Cheerio Cheerio Cheerio. I have to say this guys attitude is the most unprofessional I have ever seen. I would fine him and stick him in the reserves and possibly loan him out to a league 2 side.

He's been an alright servant for us but to be honest his attitude and willingness to fight for his 1st team place has really let him down this time. If i was in his shoes and O'Neill had just bought another keeper for the sake of it then maybe i would be having a moan. O'Neill wants to take Villa forward on Sorenson has to understand that nobody is guarenteed a 1st team place, especially someone who's proven that his head goes walkies at important times. Carson is class and if Sorenson doesn't want to fight him for a 1st team place then i say ship him off!! I certainly won't be crying!

The transfer window is firmly shut, unless he wants to go on loan and ply his trade at a club that is a few tiers lower than the Premiership? Button it Tommy - you're a professional footballer, look at Stan Petrov, ready to fight for his place and gaining credit for stating this.

Jon.H made some great points I agree that perhaps the old guard were not willing to fight for a place. MON has kept the same mantra for everyone he has bought in the "the lad said he was willing to fight for his place" except Moloney everyone gets it.

Carson is a class act and will continue to prove it. If Tommy wants to throw his toys out of the pram like Davo then let him off and break the bank for Carson. If Gordon was worth £9m, then £2m for the season is peanuts. Close the door on the way out, Tommy and sulk all the way to the Championship!
