'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Villa Can Challenge For Years

Nigel Reo-Coker has put pay to the five year plan saying that Martin O'Neill will build from the bottom up so Villa can challenge over the next 10 years.

On the set up he says, 'Yes you could say that the manager has a team here that could stay together for a decade. It's a fantastic possibility, but I think we might even achieve some great stuff this season - that's up to us. There's an abundance of talent here. The only criticism I have at the moment is that we're too nice. We need a nasty streak, in the right way, and we'll be successful.'

Ha, see, I said that. I'm not just an ugly faced git with no hair after!!!

He also says he'd love to follow Barry into the main England set up but says to do that he'll just concentrate on his Villa career adding, 'what will be will be'.

Meanwhile Martin O'Neill has flown in the face of recent talk about English football having no future due to the influx of foreign players saying the numbers might be less but the ones that are breaking through are a 'much better standard'.

He explained, 'The introduction of top-quality foreign players can only be good for the game. You can't tell me that players like Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp and Eric Cantona have not enriched our game, because they have. Of course there might be a problem if you get a group of less gifted foreign players, but my genuine belief is that if any young English player is good enough then he will come through. If you look at people like Frank Lampard and John Terry, they are shining examples of that.'

O'Neill is certainly building an English backbone at Villa adding Ashley Young, Nigel Reo-Coker, Zat Knight, Curtis Davies and Marlon Harewood to the England youngsters who were already at the club including Gabby Agbonlahor, Luke Moore, Isaiah Osbourne and Craig Gardner.

'I have faith in those players - real faith. And I don't mind going for the likes of somebody who is 21, 22 or 23 with lots to prove and to learn and has got a bit of potential....I'm absolutely confident about the potential they all have.'

All this positive talk, I think I need a lie down.

"I'm not just an ugly faced git with no hair " and apparently neither is Nigel Reo-Coker :-D

"Okey cokey has put paid to the 5 year plan"??????? How do you work that out? He has said that a team is being built that can compete FOR 10 years. Not IN 10 years. Personally I think that he sounds like a cocky, arrogant young man. Somebody who wants to be a winner no matter what, regardless of wether he ruffles a few feathers. In effect, just what we have needed for years. He has a long way to go to be compared to Roy Keane, but he is in that mould. Somebody with a great engine, prepared to put his foot in and not afraid to speak his mind. Roy Keane slated his team mates, opponents and his own fans. But he had earned the right and the respect to do that. Hopefully Okey Cokey can have a similar effect, and in time be brave enougth to speak a few home truths when required.

I hope MON and the rest of the Villa board have taken notice to their change of plan!! NRC has just made it ten years by which time NRC will be long since gone from the Villa Family...

col8 what are you on about? He has said we can compete for the next ten years ...... not in ten years time. For future reference, are you having trouble reading? Or is it trouble understanding? Or maybe you just like to stir up trouble? Maybe it is worth reading an article properly before commenting on it. Maybe then people would actually care what you have said!

Positive, upbeat comments from Nigel Reo-Coker, certainly make for better, more enjoyable reading that repeated articles from Shaun Maloney's camp, telling us over and over just how unhappy he is. NRC can obviously see a bright future ahead for the club, and its pleasing to see that the players, or most of them, are obviously in the same frame of mind as the supporters. Reo-Coker comes across as an abrasive, straight-talking, somewhat cocky sort of character (as voth has suggested), and our starting line-up is much the better, and considerably more competitive, because of it.

Hoping that there's a lot more to come from NRC. Am I alone in thinking that he hasn't really dominated the midfield as was expected? Early days I guess.
