3 Villa Extensions 1 Exit?

3 Villa Extensions 1 Exit?

Thomas Sorensen is apparently “weighing up” his options and a report in The Sun claims he may well leave in the summer after falling out with Martin O'Neill. It seems if he doesn't get his first team place back, he'll quit. Fair enough then, next! Sorensen is in the last year of his contract so sadly would be able to walk away for nothing, not a great situation for Villa as he could command a decent enough price tag as an international keeper.

The Birmingham Post have re-stated that Martin O’Neill is looking to tie up Olof Mellberg, Luke Moore and Martin Laursen to new deals, but these latest reports don't mention Thomas Sorensen at all. So maybe there is substance to these exit rumours?

O'Neill said: 'I would hope to get Luke and Olof sorted out soon. I will be making big inroads now over the next fortnight to get that sorted out. We did say we would just leave it in abeyance until after the transfer window.'

And on Lukey boy he adds, 'Luke is doing great. He can get better but he’s working as hard as anyone has ever seen him working. He was great against Chelsea and I was really pleased with him. Luke knows if he puts the work in, he has the ability to be anything because he’s got really great natural, priceless talent which has pushed him into this position in the game. But you wouldn’t want to see that wasted. I’ve seen it thousands of times in the game. I’ve seen players who think natural talent alone will carry them through, but it just doesn’t happen.'

Finishing: 'His overall play at times has been excellent.'

Have to admit I'm getting sick of all this talk of new deals! Been rumbling on for ages now... I'm sure the new deal for Melly was first mentioned about a year ago! Just get it done!

I really hope this is true as it would be great to get those 3 tied up. If Tommy's gonna moan, then move him on! Just begs the question why we need 5 centre halves? I'd be over the moon if Olaf stayed but I just assumed he was leaving when we bought Zat Knight and Curtis Davies. I hope this doesn't mean Cahill will be leaving.

O'Neill is on record saying he spoke to Paul Stretford, Tommy's agent and they want to see how things pan out.He will be gone, but I reckon O'Neill will pay the money for Carson. After two seasons playing 1st team football is he gonna go back and sit on the bench at Liverpool? Is Rafa gonna drop Reina!...I reckon Carson will want out and we will pay the cash!
07/09/2007 15:42:00
Simple really. If Tommy doesn't want to stay and fight for his place then he can sod off.

Reina might go to Milan its been muted where would O'Neill stand then? I seem to remember talks of new contracts for McCann, Hughes, Ridgewell, too, look what happened to them. I'm sure O'Neill is living back when when there weren't agents, when players didn't have a clue about contracts. He still gets mugged into paying over the odds for players like Petrov, but I'm sure the players in question and their agents won't be mugged by his promises, unlike some fans especially those in his Squad. Most other clubs, look at Portsmouth today, Bolton last week, just get the job done, something like transfers. O'Neill finds very agrd to do.

Not surprised by Tommy's response to his ousting. I like Tommy, believing him to be a better keeper than a lot of folk give him credit for. There's not too many keepers better than him in the premiership. As for Carson, I'm undecided. He hasn't been tested yet, having little to do in the games in which he's played thanks to outstanding defensive heroics in front of him. Regarding Luke Moore and Olof Mellberg, quit talking and get a couple of offers on the table.

avfc48, I imagine MON did have contract talks with Ridgwell, Hughes and McCann which is where he found out they didn't want to sign a contract unless they where guarenteed first team football (like Steve Davis) or that they simply didn't want to sign a contract hence the reason they where sold. Also how do you know that Pompy and Bolton haven't been holding contract talks with the players that signed for weeks, even months. You can't possibly tell can you? Its exciting times, some "fans" just try to pick holes and moan about anything, always looking for the negative.

AVFC48 states his usual KNOB SQUAD ramblings.

Luke continues to progress and develop, and fully deserves the offer of a new deal. He has his critics who perhaps rightly suggest that he's not consistent. Consistency though will come with experience, so for now we have to accept that he'll have his good days and his off days. That should not be held against him.
