Unoial Villa News...

Various reports in Scotland are linking Shaun Maloney with a last minute transfer window move back to Celtic. Not convinced, some say he has been spotted in Glasgow, others that he was at Bodymoor Heath this morning training. Also, these quotes don't suggest an imminent departure: Click Here

Another wild rumour is that Peter Crouch has been spotted at Villa and West Ham, maybe someone got the colours confused, although I'd imagine with one being in London and the other in Aston, it would be difficult for Crouchy to be at both! All total rubbish obviously, although I have seen Ronaldhino entering Villa Park this morning, well it was either him or the postman, not sure.

Steve McClaren has called up to Villans and one half Villa for the 26-man England squad for the Israel and Russia Euro 2008 qualifiers. Ashley Young has earnt a full call up and Gareth Barry has retained his place. We also have on loan keeper Scott Carson in the squad. England face Israel on Saturday 8 September at Wembley, (live on BBC) and Russia the following Wednesday (12th) at 8pm (also live on the BBC) Full squad:

Vital Villa asked in our last poll:What do you think of the signing of Zat Knight? Seems the majority, with 63%, think he will be good squad cover. 18% weren't so impressed voting 'Uninspired - not the quality we need' That left 7% voting he will be a good first teamer, 7% saying it was 'Inspired - good move' and 5% firmly sitting on the fence as unsure. Our latest poll is asking for your prediction for the Chelsea game.

The 3rd round draw for the Carling Cup takes place on Saturday at 12.30 live on Sky Sports.

Villa reserves beat West Ham at their gaff (official London talk) 2-1. The West Ham official site claimed: 'West Ham United's reserves were unlucky to lose out in the first game of the season at home to Aston Villa.'

The official Baggies site have confirmed that their manager Tony Mowbray has given Curtis Davies permission to talk with Villa but as yet no agreement has been reached regarding price. Scrap that, as I was doing the Villa Times, it was announced that he has signed for Villa!

Zat Knight says he has done nothing wrong and the fans have nothing to worry about, he is committed to Aston Villa Zat Knight 'I've Done Nothing Wrong' following the news of his arrest: Arrest shocker

This looks like another positive step from Villa, as the official site has announced they have laid on buses for a trial 'Villa special' service to get fans from Tamworth, Solihull and Redditch on match days. Full details: Click Here

Vital Villa asked, in a poll suggested by deano.avfc, what is your opinion of Stiliyan Petrov? 37% still have the faith that he will come good after voting 'still settling in - he will come good'. 28% voted him a flop and a further 27% labelled him a squad player at best and 2% saying he should not even be in the squad. That left 1% saying he was a solid first team performer and 5% lauding him as a key member of the first team.

Juan Pablo Angel has admitted to missing Aston Villa and England. The Columbian striker, now a major hit at the New York Red Bulls having scored 13 goals in 15 matches, said: 'I miss Villa a lot. I hope one day soon to be able to go back and see everyone again. I miss a lot of things about life in England. I spent seven years of my life there so, of course, it has taken away a beautiful piece of my heart.' Full quotes: No Bull, Angel misses Villa.

Paul Merson is appearing as the star guest for Walsall player Darren Wrack's testimonial where you'll be able to enjoy a three course meal and ask Paul Merson anything you wish about his career. He has been doing this around the country but I believe this is his only Midlands appearance. The event takes part on Wednesday 19th September 2007 at 7.30pm The venue is: Bar Sport, 85 High Green, Cannock, WS11 1BJ and costs just £35 per head or £300 for a table of 10. Thought for the day: 'If a fool and his money are easily parted, how did they get together in the first place?'

Think you guys expecting a bit more incoming transfer activity before the midnight deadline are going to be disappointed. Hope I'm wrong, but I think its safe to say that we go with what we've got until January. All been a bit of an anti-climax really hasn't it?
