Davies In Talks But NO Deal Done Yet

The official Baggies site have confirmed that their manager Tony Mowbray has given Curtis Davies permission to talk with Villa.

Earlier reports claimed that both clubs have agreed the fee and that Curtis Davies just needed to agree personal terms and pass a medical.

However Mowbray denies this and says negotiations are ongoing - only been going on since May, give them time!

'We've given Curtis permission to speak to Aston Villa but the deal is not concluded and is ongoing. We'll wait and see if anything gets concluded. The bottom line is Curtis hasn't contributed at all for us this season and, if he goes, we'll just get on with what we've been doing.'

God I hope this goes through.
Pking
Only 2 right backs and a left back to go!!!
In MON we trust!
surely they wouldnt let us talk to him unless we had agreed a deal in principle with wba, by saying 'no deal done yet' means we have to agree personal terms and he has to pass a medical surely?
Stig
He's having his medical as we speak, thats straight from bodymoor, there are two others there aswell, so I'm told by a security friend, fingers crossed....tick tock....
astonmilan
trouble is my mate is a huge rugby fan and hates football, so he doesn't know who's who !!!!! just that an Albion player and two other guys and agents arrived this afternoon after training ??????
astonmilan
oooohhh the suspense !!!!
astonmilan
can you ask your rugger mate if one is about 5ft 8 with bling bling on?
edgley_1957
Do either of them answer to the name Ronaldinho?
The Usual Suspect
I would get my old boy out if Defoe signs! The boys the best finisher in England IMO...far better than Owen. If he signs for us, I'm sure he will have a blinding season, make the plane for the Euro's and be a guaranteed starter!
In MON we trust!
AAARRRHHHHHGGGGG
KSarge1
and ask him if one of them looks like Jah Jah Binks! you never know
eltoro
they could be health and safety inspectors as far as he goes to be fair !! they get sacked if caught with their phones in the complex.....so I haven't got a clue...
astonmilan
he's a rugby player......he wouldn't know who Kaka was, let alone Jah Jah Binks !!!!
astonmilan
This is killing me. I'm like a kid in a sweet shop, all excited.
*Holte*End*Star*
so like, if Davies signs is avfc48 still going to whinge?
The Usual Suspect
yes.....he couldn't function without whinging
astonmilan
Hope one of them doesn't look like Rodney Trotter aka Crouch Potatoe. West Brom are really pulling our string.
tarzan
can someone setup a webcam at bodymoor?!
edgley_1957
The Usual Suspect, does a bear s**t in the woods?
HuntysVilla
Huntys.. thats what i thought. Does Curtis Davies represent a "big" signing?
The Usual Suspect
(Relatively) massive IMO. Tremendous ability. We aren't competing in a top 4 world remember.
tarzan
UP the Villa! - - - - - - Mr O'Neill is firming up the backline. I'm pleased, but we need a RB, and LB. Nearly there.
evoflash
If MON gets one of Hoyte, Rosienier or Johnson and Matty Taylor, I'll be more than happy with the squad.
In MON we trust!
Matty Taylor and Johnson please!! Wow, we would be doing the future of the english game a huge favour!
edgley_1957
Is it greedy asking for Defoe as well?!?!?
In MON we trust!
Curbishly pulled Reo's chain and I reckon Mowbray will do the same with Davies just to get his own back.
Gazvilla
I cant understand it NO POSTS FROM AVFC48. Anyway i think MON is playing this transfer market like a classical guitar. When Pompey and Spurs etc have done all there Dough we have almost all ours to spend.... I just hope MON has'nt left it too late. We will all know in approx 30 hours. i hope he timed it to perfection.
gappy65
Redknapp is trying to off load Nugent to Derby to finance new signings. I cant see the board at Spurs letting Jol spend anymore money. that just leaves Chelski and Man U i Cant see Defoe going to Chelski, that leaves ManU. I think if Defoe moves it will be ManU or Villa who get him..
gappy65
How exciting is this? We must have 40 mill to spend.....bring it on!
KSarge1
Who's Johnson again - blonde moment. Matt Taylor yes please! Nicky Shorey would be brill - I'd pay 6 mil for him. Plus Diop? Would anyone entertain the thought of offloading Moore and buying Defoe?
koolbill
Sign Defoe, swap Carew for Boswinga. My dog knows Jermaine's bitch so it's gotta be true!
Gazvilla
BOSINGWA HAS NOT BEEN APPROACHED OR TALKED TO ANY ENGLISH TEAMS, thats straight from the horses mouth yesterday. Idle rumour. He says he wants to stay at Porto, full stop.
astonmilan
5 centre backs including Bouma as that is where he used to play. Don't want to see Cahill or Moore go but another striker is essential, Barry is O.K. as cover for LB but RB also needed.
Villan444
MON is keeping us in suspense and teasing us with some average buys in Harewood and Knight. 30 hours and counting, come on. UTV
Villan444
It would be great if we pulled out of the deal last minute so WBA are left with him after they have messed us around all summer holding us to ransom with a supposed mystery bid from spurs. Do we need a player like him that is holding his club to Ransom by not playing
FatKev
FatKev its not as simple as that. Theyare protecting their assett by not playing him (like Henry at the end of last season).
tarzan
Should teach mowbray a lesson pull out at the last minute sign 3 others then offer 5m max cuz thats davis is worth, always injured only plus point is he is young, but not worth 9m. The only down side to my cunning plan is that it would take 12 weeks to sign 3 players based on current performance, 12 hours would go against the grain somewhat, UTV
HuntysVilla
Until he signs for us, if he indeed does, then I'll still genuinely believe that Martin Jol has both the financial backing and support of his chairman to slip in at the eleventh hour and wrestle Davies from our grasp.
glensider
Should we sign Davies, it would mean us having five central defenders. My understanding of that, is that M'ON is already preparing for life without the bearded one. I have said since M'ONs first days that his third season would be the one where we we can reasonably expect the biggest strides. He will have a year of assessment and tinkering. A year of moving players both out and in. And a reasonable amount of time to really put his mark on the team. However we are massively unbalanced for the season and that does surprise me. We have 3 keepers, great. We've 4 (maybe 5) central defenders, acceptable, although wether Knight will be better than the Ridge only time will tell. Full backs we have errrrr ...........1. We have 8 midfielders. Unfortunately Young, Maloney and Berger are happiest on the left. Barry, Okey Cokey, Petrov, Osbourne and Gardner are all central midfielders. We have no naturally right sided midfielder and this is why SWP would have been a great addition to the squad. We have four strikers (and I know Fear disagrees) but I think they should be given the season to see if they are good enough. It was obvious before the season started that M'ON was going to use a similar formation to the one that last won us the league. If the team can adapt to this 4-3-3 formation and we stay reasonably injury free, then we are just a right back (and back up) and cover for Bouma from a reasonable squad. However the 4-3 -3 so far has looked unbalanced. And with no natural right sided players at the club, I think that this will prove to be our achilles heel this season. Unless the next 24 hours throws up a couple of surprises of course.
voiceoftheholte
Voice.. my only gripes with your post is your presumption that a) chelsea wanted to sell SWP and b) he would sign for villa if he were for sale. I think its obvious from his form and from the game time he is currently getting that Chelsea wouldn't sell, and didn't SWP already rule a move to villa out? Why would he come to us when he is on a wedge and has CL football and is going to win trophies at Chelsea? Get real. They are years ahead of us... and probably more than 5 at that, mores the pity.
The Usual Suspect
Understand the point suspect, but I didn't say that SWP should have joined, only that it would have been good for us if he did. However I do know that the deal was possible and was something that would have been acceptable to SWP at the start of summer. Circumstances have since changed and the deal is now a definite no go for exactly the reasons you mentioned.
voiceoftheholte
Good discussion there voiceoftheholte and I agree with what you say about the squad. Davies would be welcome addition to 4 already quality CBs. I think we have needed a RW since Solano and Milner. I would really like to see Routledge sign. He is a similar player to SWP/Lennon and under MON he could get up to that level. However - Solano wants out of Toon- how about that for a last min signing if all else fails? I think it may be something MON has to consider due to lack of available RWs!! Ideally I would like to see Davies, Defoe, Routledge and two RBs - Rosenior and Johnson. But 5 signings in a day!!! I doubt it! May have to settle with Davies and Johnson!
deano.avfc
if we sign davies plus a right back we will be fine although if we were to really push on for europe and excel this season we would need another midfielder along the lines of kevin nolan/wayne routledge and jermine defoe 4 signings is highly unlikely doubt we will be getting another striker hopefully moore will get more starts alongside carew
maxi
voiceoftheholte I think Saunders predominantly played the 442 formation with Bremmner and Morley operating on the left and right repectively with cover from Williams and Swain. Withe and Shaw were the classic Big man small man upfront. All due respects but the current team isn't even in the same league as this one.
myleftfoot
Your right. It was called div 1 then. 8-)

Fairly new to these forums, so Hi to everyone. I dont know about you lot, but I am getting very tired refreshing sky sports, avfc, these forums etc in the hope the MON will come good with his promise of signing more players. That being said, I will prob go on refreshing each of these pages while watching sky sports and litening to five live until midnight tonight :S AVFC confirm that we have curtis davies and that will be confirmed later today.. TBH Ive been quite excited over the summer, expecting as we have to see a flurry of new signings. I was furthmore encouraged with MON releasing a number of players to make way for the new? But thats just the problem... I cant see the new coming.... seriously can anyone? I hope I'm wrong. Transfer talk aside.. 2 things I think we would all like to see.. CAREW HIT THE F****** net and Maloney in for Petrov (Sort it out Petrov!!!).
Instrumental
I think the CD transfer is a waste of money, 8.5 rising to 10m I hope i am proved wrong At least we do not have to pay for him till next year
FatKev
Agreed FatKev, however having players through the door is vital.. if we pick up injuries we are screwed and then the 8.5 rising to 10 wouldnt seem to harsh considering the impact not having replacements would have.
Instrumental
CD would be a massive siging for us, he's quality, quick and has bags of ability (like young Ashley). Johnson is his way to Pompey? Unless they need to offload Nugent first.
tarzan
Got to be soon as the clocks ticking away, I suspect its just his agent holding things up at the moment.
col8
Or they were hoping that Tottenham might just step in.
