Maloney & Osbourne Praised

Martin O'Neill has praised the team performance as they thrashed Wrexham 5-0 in the Carling Cup last night.

The Villa boss said, singling out Isaiah Osbourne and Shaun Maloney for special praise:

'We played very well and the most important thing was to get the first goal. Maloney was terrific for us all night. He scored a wonder goal and I thought Osbourne was absolutely marvellous as well. We had some excellent performances and there had to be because there was always the danger of Wrexham breaking us down and getting a goal.'

Adding, on the official site, 'Shaun carried off where he left off on Saturday. At the start of the game I thought we were a bit anxious and I thought at times we overplayed. We wanted to blast a hole in their wall early on but overall we were delighted that Shaun got the goal in the first half. That settled us down and the second half was very good.'

They were very good, as were the rest of the team, even Harewood put his ten pense worth in. What does worry me is how Villa take ten minutes to wake up at the start of games !! same on saturday against Fullham, I've been impressed with our performances in general, but they need to start quicker out of the blocks.

Its a result that leaves Martin with a few selection posers for Sunday, and that has to be good for business. Osbourne had a very good game, and is certainly developing very nicely, and while we dont expect him to feature against Chelsea, his showing last night bodes well for the future. Two goal Shaun, has he done enough to earn a starting role? I personally think so. Luke? Took his goal well, and as arguably the most natural finisher at the club, surely he has to be close to a starting spot? Then of course we have to confront the poser of how to fit the three or four, maybe even five, six, or dare I suggest seven (!!!) new signings that will be making their way into the club before Friday evening, into Sundays starting line up. Problems, problems, who would be Martin?

Maloney should not be allowed to leave he has a real zip about him and can score wonder goals something we have lacked since Hendrie went wayward. Good performance all round but a scoreline you would expect.

Maloney and Moore have to start. It might have only been Wrexham but these two look like the only two that can stick the ball in the net.

Nice to see Isaiah back in action!

To fit them in the team we'll have to play a 442 which can only be a good thing. Drop petrov and gabby for Maloney and Moore IMHO

Was disappointed in what Wrexham had to offer though. Even considering they were lower league opposition, they didn't come at us as I'd expected.
