Zat Knight To Sign Today

Villa boss Martin O'Neill confirmed last night that Fulham captain Zat Knight should be completing formalities and joining Villa today.

O'Neill said:

'We are very close. We've got one or two things to tie up with Fulham and we hope to do that in the morning.'

Zat was a regular England U21 international and was also brought into the full England squad. Kevin Keegan bought him for Fulham in 1999.

Knight will be the third full signing following Nigel Reo-Coker and Marlon Harewood to Villa Park, as well as Liverpool keeper Scott Carson on loan for the season.

Mr O'Neill, you spoil us, you really do!

Not the superstar we all crave, but a good signing. I think he'll be a rock for us given the chance, and most importantly he's one of us! UTV

Lol.. Championship Quality player. City fan here, my gal is a Villa fan so I do take a passing interest when I need a chuckle.

ZK is every bit as good as Harewood. What is your gaffer playing at?

Now... was never a fan of SGE as Englan boss but he has already spent around £40million at City, and we are now linked with Brazilian Inter Milan striker Adriano and Portugal international Nuno Gomes.
Come on Villa, not another late push to finish 10th is it?
[Written largely for the benefit of Sarah at work - don't be too hard on my Villa fans!]
Aston Smithy
One of our own coming home. Up the Villa Zat.

LOL city will freefall dont worry about that.

Good signing i think...he'll give his heart and soul playing for Villa and has had the potential to become a great defender for many years. He's back at his spiritual home and playing under MON he may blossom into something very special!! Provides good competition for places at CB too. I trust MON i just want to see 1 WORLD CLASS signing before the window slams shut on Friday!! As for City i say good luck to them...Especially when the their new owner gets banged up and they lose all their money!!! UTV!!

Zat Knight was knocking on the england door a few years back so i think he has quality we just need mon to use his powers to turn a good player into a world beater like he did with Barry.
iomvilla
I don't think MON has turned Barry into anything iomvilla, he was already great?
The Fear
As a Villa Fan, I welcome a 'ma breadren' with open arms. Has a lot to prove, ala Harewood and £3.5-4m for a squad player again seems excessive. There seems to be an element of panic buying once again - but I'll reserve my judgement on that till 12.01am Sat morning.... Welcome Zat and if you can be half the performer Ian Taylor was in a Villa shirt, you'd have done well ma brother.... UTV!

Zat Knight is actualy a very good defender, so not a bad signing for rotation / cover. Plus he is a Villa fan thru and thru. Not a bad bit of business. And Aston smithy, Adriano is a waste of space mate, no team wants him at the top level. City will finish bottom six, the players he's bought have not got what it takes to survive in the prem, come xmas they'll be burn't out or injured.

Initial recation is that its a very unimpressive signing but dont think Ive ever taken enough intrest in him to watch him.In Ireland he is known for declaring to play for us only for Brian Kerr to refuse to pick him and say he was another english player not good enough for england who was just chancing his arm with us.And there have been some rubbish english rejects play for us.

Fear, Barry was good but he stepped up a level with MON in charge I think he's up there with Gerrards of this world whilst before he was scott parker.
iomvilla
Terrible signing, yet another b*****k dropped by O'Neill, what is the bloke playing at. He has brought complete rubbish. Im sure he is trying to turn us in to Leicester
wislor
stan collymore is a villa fan. he played superbly didn't he? perhaps knight will be awesome, perhaps he'll be really nervous about making a mistake for his favourite club. he will be so desperate to play well, it could work for or against him.
ric112
Hopefully MON is now working flat out to bring in a right full back, and a quality striker. They are both absolute musts, and if we have to splash the cash to bring them here, then lets do so without hesitation.
glensider
He's another player who is thrilled to have been given the oppertunity to play for Villa, makes a refreshing change.
Pking
We're certainly well off for central defenders right now. Hopefully MON can now hit upon the perfect combination.
