Maloney Staying At Villa.

Maloney Staying At Villa.

Following the quotes from Shaun Maloney about not settling and suffering from homesickness on Saturday (Home Sick Blues Or Green & Whites) , Martin O'Neill has made it clear that the former Celtic striker will not be leaving Villa Park in this transfer window.

He told the Daily Mail:

'Shaun is definitely a bit homesick and it's something the media in Scotland seem to pick up on on a daily basis. But I've spoken to Shaun and no-one is going anywhere. I want players into the club rather than going out. I know it's a difficult move when you move to another country but he's not the only one who has come down here. Stiliyan Petrov came down here along with some of my staff. We all have to move around.'

Adding, 'This is the first time that Shaun has really been away from home. But I do not envisage Shaun leaving. He has a future to play with us.'

He also said, having been asked 1000 times no doubt, 'I am still hopeful and optimistic of bringing in players I initially targeted.'

Jeez, I hope so, 19 players + one on loan won't see us through that is for sure! I think we are all hoping and praying for an exciting week aren't we?!?

Lets hope by January he is settled and happy, impossible to keep a player if he isn't happy but so want to see him be a success at Villa, he looks like he has bags of potential.

Agree, he's a good kid. Hopefully he'll get a good run in the team.

bit worrying he admits he hasn't got a house in the midlands (read it in one of his quotes), been at the club for 6months now. Surely if you're planning to stay you'd at least find somewhere to live??

It seems as though Maloney was never sure about moving to Villa after all if that's the case about him not even buying a house? Seems strange that he's been here for six months now and hasn't settled - maybe he's no longer the 'big fish' like he was a celtic? I would like to see Maloney work hard and commit to Villa as he looks a decent player.

I saw Celtic last year and he wasn't the big fish as you put it. He was mainly a sub. I think when he was leaving he had hoped to get a regular start that he couldn't get with them. Maybe the fact that even after going he still can't get a start is getting to him

He's class. When was the last time we had someone capable of scoring from free kicks. Lets hope and pray he sorts this homesickness bull $hit out asap. FFS it's not like he's moved to the other side of the world where he's got to speak a totally different language. Grow up. Get your head down. Become a Villa legend. My advice in 3 simple steps!!!

I'd very much like him to stay, but despite MON's assurances, circumstances will very much dictate in this matter.

Well Carew lives in a City Centre Hotel, Coker commutes, even O'Neill commutes, do you think they are all homesick I suppose based on his past track record, Carew finds it pointless to put down roots ;)

Guys, Maloney is a class player. He was only a sub for Celtic last year due to a few niggling injuries that he had - when he did play for us he was still brilliant. If you want to see just how good he is you would need to have seen the Celtic-Benfica match when we won 3-0, he was tremendous. He's fast and skilful and hits amazing free-kicks and I definitely think he'll be a big asset to you if he stays. I was gutted when he left celtic and would happily have him back but to be honest I think it would be best for everyone if he managed to stay with you guys and start proving to you what a player he is and can be. Good luck with Maloney & hopefully you can get a few more boys in before the close of the transfer window!

He could be a diamond in a kilt for Villa, maybe he just needs a confidence booster like the goal against Fulham to make him realise Villa Park aint so bad. Maybe if the manager played him a few more times and let him know he will play a Vital role in this seasons push to avoid relegation he would be happier.
