Martin O'Neill and Gareth Barry singled out Ashley Young's contribution yesterday as 'world class'.
The Villa boss, who brought in Young from Watford in the January transfer window, said:
'Ashley was absolutely magnificent. He put in a real world-class performance. I wouldn't use those terms lightly but he was unbelievable. The crowd were on their feet every time he touched the ball. He was superb on the wing and then when he moved inside he played a wonderful ball through to Shaun Maloney for the winner. It was a great performance.'
Barry agreed telling the official site: 'He was brilliant. Throughout the game we fed him the ball and he tormented the Fulham defence, particularly the right-back who eventually got sent off. ' Adding those sort of performances could well get him a full England call up.
Barry also applauded Shaun Maloney for his match winning sub appearance. On the game and player he said:
'There's no better feeling than to win a game right at the death. Three points was massively important and we're really relieved. It was fantastic to get it in front of the Holte End too, that was special. I was really pleased for Shaun getting the winner. He showed great composure in front of goal. It's never easy coming on as a substitute. You've got to get up to speed with the pace of the game but he did it really well. There was a lot of pressure on his shoulders with that one on one but he did brilliantly to finish.'
Meanwhile, Ashley Young has taken the praise in his stride saying it's his job!
He explained on avfc.com 'My job is to score goals and create goals. That's what wingers do. I was as delighted at setting up Shaun's winner as I was scoring the equaliser. That's what I'm in the side for.'
