Villa Will Have No Problems Scoring

Martin O'Neill says he is excited about the potential of Villa and says scoring will not be a problem.

He said: 'I am very excited about this team. I think we have the capabilities of attacking and, more importantly, attacking with great pace. I think Newcastle were wary of that but they were unable to stop us doing it. That was very pleasing from my perspective. It's very early on in the season and we've only played a couple of games. We played very well in pre-season but were a bit stodgy against Liverpool, even though we were a couple of minutes away from getting a result. We're just getting into a rhythm though and it will take more than a couple of games to get right up to speed.'

Promising, 'I think we're going to be exciting this season and that's the way we want it. If we can keep a bit of strength at the back too, I'm absolutely confident we will score at the other end. One point from two games might not seem a great deal but they were a couple of very difficult matches. Liverpool will be contesting the Premiership title without question and Newcastle are vying for a place in Europe.'

If Big John can follow through on his international goals last night, maybe we'll start to see the confidence in the team, it must be tough as a defender when the strikers aren't scoring the other end as the pressure is heaped on them not to concede.

Hope O'Neill is right about goals, we still look one top striker short of a good season to me, but then again, he's a million pound a year manager and I'm not!

I don't think we need any more strikers. I wouldn't be unhappy at the arrival of another - obviously. We look pretty good up front in my opinion. Esp if Harewood can win over the doubters if and when he gets his chance.

By the sounds of it we will not buy a new striker this season unless moore leaves or someone gets hurt but if we dont score against Fulham I would start to kinda panic that we wont score much.
Christo
I beg to differ with MON. JC, Luke, Gabby and MH all have attributes, and all have the potential to play crucial roles for us as the campaign progresses, but none of them I feel is capable of scoring on a regular enough basis, to become a 15-20 goal per season striker. And that is exactly what we need at the club right now, a proven quality premiership finisher, who realistically has the ability to fire us towards a top eight finish by scoring twenty premiership goals. Without that, we will struggle to finish above half-way. With all due respect Christo, I cant quite understand why you would suggest that if we can score goals against Fulham on Saturday then all will be well, but that if we fail to score then we should begin to panic. You surely cant judge our seasons goalscoring prospects on the success achieved in one game? You have to look at the broader picture, and the broader picture very clearly indicates that we are a team who had problems scoring goals last season, and will no doubt continue to do so again this time around, without the arrival of additional firepower. Scoring ten goals against Fulham wouldn't mean that our failing has gone away.

I think Moore could score 15-20 goals given a decent run. Look what he was starting to do last season before getting injured and in pre season.

I didn't mean panic I ment that even thought it is 3 games some of us might start to wonder but I know our strikers can do it just gabby and Moore put together could score 35 goals a season between them on there best day and if Carew plays like he does for Norway then he could get maybe 15 goals for us.
Christo
I appreciate what you're saying Christo, and your obviously entitled to your opinion, but I totally disagree with you. No way are JC, Luke and Gabby capable of scoring 50 premiership goals between them, it would never happen. Carew is playing well for us, he doesnt have to play "like he does for Norway", but playing well for us and notching 15 premiership goals are two entirely different things. And as for Gabby and Luke bringing a combined total of 35 goals to the table, well, I'm sorry but you're dreaming.

TBH, i reckon non of our players are capable of gettning 15-20 goals, So we need a player like Keane. Keane+Carew up front, Total Choas for the opposition. An Easy 25 goals from both of them. Harewood will get about 5 if we are lucky. BArry will get probly about the same. But with penaltys and free kicks about 10+ from barry. Petrov i hope will come good and get a few. WIth Reo also scoring. Ashley young, i feel will get the most assists, and help out with a few probly about 10?. Moore+Gabby combined total of 20. So MON try your hardest to get Keane, Pay whatever spurs want he is worth it! Who agrees with me?

Keane + Carew an easy 25 goals from both of them combined*

If we aim for 70-80 goals in all compitions we will be sitting pretty, but i feel we wil get about 50-60, if we have a good cup run, and We come up on form in most of our games, And are lucky with injurys, Soz about the number of posts. Right of to bed.
Newman
I didn't say Gabby and Moore could score 25 each
Christo
Christo, you said Gabby and Luke Moore together could score 35 goals, and Big John Carew 15 goals. So 35 + 15 = 50. Hence my response, ' but I totally disagree with you. No way are JC, Luke and Gabby capable of scoring 50 premiership goals between them, it would never happen'. Nowhere Christo do I suggest that you said Gabby and Moore could score 25 each.
glensider
hmm am not sure hot to put it not too good at explaining things. We score 50 goals this season and 35 of them come from Gabby and Luke sorry if you dont understand that but am not to good at explaining things.
