The Hulk Dominates Argentina

The Argentina coach has praised the role John Carew played during Norway's 2-1 victory over Argentina. The Hulk scored both Norway goals and Alfio Basile said to TyC Sports:

'Carew was outstanding. He won the game by himself, alone, not needing anybody else. One penalty, one header and he played excellent. It was impossible for us to mark him in aerial plays.'

Cool, sounds like worries over big John's fitness this week have been put to one side, lets hope he is fit to terrorise Fulham on Saturday.

Martin O'Neill had said earlier in the week 'John Carew played through the game at Newcastle and he said he would get scanned up on Monday and if there were any major problems he would report back to us; so far we haven't heard anything.'

On other injuries, he added, 'Patrik Berger is still a bit sore but he's getting there, and slower than we first imagined. Thomas Sorensen is a couple of weeks away, and I think he will be raring to go.'

And on the worry of players going on international duty he told the official site: 'Most of the teams are playing friendly games, so to lose the players within two weeks of the season's start all across Europe is particularly galling. You realise, of course, that international football is a major player in the world stage, but friendly matches are games most managers would avoid if they could. It's now a waiting game, waiting to get the players back over the course of the week, and hoping they arrive fit and ready to play on Saturday.'

I know that Big John has his critics, and there's people out there who want us to go into premiership games with a Gabby Agbonlahor/Luke Young strike partnership, but this individual is certainly not one of them. I rate Carew highly, and believe that it was a tremendous piece of business by MON in bringing him to Villa Park. His pedigree speaks for itself, and I think that he's exactly what we need in this developing team, the type of player we've cried out for for quite a while. Thought he put in a very good performance at St James Park last weekend, and I'm looking for more of the same against Fulham.

He's a handful to any defense that we come up against, also at the international level too by the sound of it. A good MON signing.
