'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The Next Andy Townsend (?) Extends

Now this is good news, Villa midfielder Craig Gardner, who seemed to blossom at the end of last season and looks a tough and uncompromising player, has signed a new four-year contract keeping him at Villa Park until 2011.

The graduate of the much heralded Academy, who is expected to play right-back tomorrow, told the official site of his delight.

'I've been at the club for six years and this is the biggest moment of my career so far. The manager has been a massive influence and he's been behind me all the way and filled me with loads of confidence. So to be able to sign a four-year contract with Villa is fantastic.'

He also says that he has timed it perfectly coming through with a great set-up and training facilities adding, 'the ambition to be successful here is tremendous.'

The Villa boss said 'It's great to agree this deal with Craig - he's earned it. He's a player with tremendous potential and now I expect him to fulfil that potential with us here at Aston Villa.'

Gardner is tough in the tackle, not afraid to get forward and has a good shot on him. Maybe the next Andy Townsend for Villa? God knows we've missed Andy Townsend and never really replaced him!!

Yes, that is good news. The young man fully deserves the new deal too. He's come on in leaps and bounds, particularly during the latter part of last season, and the up-coming campaign should hopefully see him continue his development and progress at Villa Park, while securing a place in Stuart Pearces England under 21 squad. Way to go Craig!

Not even in his prime yet and as the squad is small there are big chances of him starting more and getting in there
Christo
Well done Craig. RB for a season or so then back to midfield like GB - then who knows?

Ah! Townsend! The original Judas left us to win trophies! What was it - one League Cup?

Great News – more of the same please MON!

Yes, lets concentrate our efforts on getting Luke Moore signed up now.

Merlin, my memory isn't the best due to certain activities but I'm pretty certain Townsend was pushed wasn't he? Little was looking for his scapegoat. But anyway, back to the point. At the start of last season I was gutted everytime Gardner was named in the starting 11 but he shoved that right up my jacksy towards the end of the season. Good luck to him. Claret and Blue through and through, a holteender - what a dream for him. I just hope he isn't wasted, and have his confidence destroyed by being stuck at right back all season.

Missing luke young to some seems to be a bad thing. Reason we missed him has just signed a four year deal. Luke Moore please sign. Gardner will be new England right back. All the people slagging villa for loosing luke young will eat words.

Merlin, that would be one more than if he stayed, Anyway are you the Chelsea -20 years fan or the Chelsea all my life fan?

When I first saw him emerge I thought he was even clumsier than Ridge but he looked terrific at the end of last season he's not afraid to put it about.

merlin. "Ah! Townsend! The original Judas left us to win trophies!" Er... Wasn't the original Judas erm... Judas?! Always good to have a Holteender in the team. More like next Tayls.

Great news for the young man. Hope he does shine wherever he plays cos he WANTS to wear the shirt. If that's RB for now then so be it. Good luck to him.
Madirish
Really improved last season ( guess he was going to ) Great news now please can we sort out Ollie-baby?
ASPINALL
Morky, think you will find luke young went to middlesborough for £4m - don't understand why we wern't in for him
qKing
qking, don't care really, we may have been in for him but maybe he wanted to join boro, who knows? All I'm worried about is supporting our team and the players that want to join us and pull on the claret and blue shirt not worrying about players that don't. Lets hope Gardner is the next Bremner.
