Petrov Tells Maloney To Stay

Petrov Tells Maloney To Stay

The Herald today have quotes from Stiliyan Petrov telling Shaun Maloney to stick it out at Villa and to make an impact. Be nice if Stiliyan took his own advice on the impact part but that is a) another story b) a bit bitchy!

Reports refuse to go away that Maloney, who joined Villa from Celtic in January for a bargain £1million, is homesick and wants a return North of the border.

A Scottish contact of mine is convinced that Maloney is off bar the formalities. Hmmm.

Petrov said: 'I just told him to imagine how many players would like to be in his position. He's not been the way that I know Shaun from Celtic. But he just needs to cope with that, get his head up and start putting in performances.'

Hopefully Maloney will settle, at the price we got him for, which was low as Maloney could have left Celtic this summer on a free, he looks an absolute bargain and can play upfront or in midfield.

Well we bought an injury prone forward at £1m and now that his injuries are behind him i would suggest an £8m price tag!!!!

I want to keep him at Villa park but I guess we might as well sell him so we can say we have sold a whole squad this summer

Come on lads, you're better than that, don't believe the twaddle. Celtic have had a poor pre-season, nothing decent in signings and the northern and scottish press keep making things up. There is one reporter, who apparently reckons he has a hot line to Parkhead, and keeps making this story up hoping its gonna happen. Maloney will shine in the prem this season.

If he wants to go let him go! I'm sick of these whinging players who wanna leave as soon as they are not in the starting 11! It should be an honour just to play for The Villa!

FFS Deano - you read a quote from a Scottish rag and immediately believe it. This story keeps being denied, only to be rehashed by the same rag. What on earth do you want SM to do - cut a vein to prove he wants to stay. If and when he re-signs for the Bhoys, then have a go, but until that don't paint him as a 'whinging player' until you know he is one!!!

Yes but that isn't the problem Christo, with all due respect I think you're totally missing the point. I, and I know most Villans, have no problem whatsoever with the number of players we've shipped out, damn good riddance to most of them. The peeve is that they haven't been replaced, despite assurances going back to early summer that replacements were in the pipeline. As for Maloney, if he's unhappy, homesick, cant settle for whatever reason, then he's better off out of here. But, and here's the kicker, get his relacement in first, and whatever we do, dont sell him at any cut price figure. No matter how good a player he is, if his heart isn't in it, then he's no good to us.

Wont argue with that Christo. I dont doubt that MON knows what he's doing, but I have to question his summer dealings, or lack of to be more precise. Going into the season without a specialist right full back is crazy, we're asking for trouble.
