A Tale Of Two Keepers For Villa!

According to reports today Villa have beaten off Sven Goran Eriksson's Manchester City for the signing of Liverpool goalkeeper Scott Carson.

Unfortunately the signing of the England U21 star is a one year loan deal, but hey ho, he's a good keeper!

The deal will apparently cost Villa in the region of £2.5million + the players wages. Not bad business by Liverpool there then!

The Mirror claim that Rick Parry (Anfield's chief exec) preferred the Villa option because he felt Man City wanted to buy Carson. They further claim 'O'neill agreed to take Carson under strict orders to return him at the end of the season and make no effort to make the deal permanent.'

Meanwhile the Daily Star claim Villa are set to bid £3million for Bolton keeper Jussi Jaaskelainen. Jussi has just one year left on his contract at Bolton, has refused to sign a new deal and has called the clubs bluff by saying he'll sit out his final year and leave next summer on a free.

I would prefer Carson, although i would like there to be the possibility of a permanent deal. Carson is a fantastic long term proposition. If we play our cards right and Liverpool dont miss him by the Jan transfer window then maybe we could make a decent offer for him then despite what Parry is saying. Either way though its positive to be linked with 2 keepers of this quality.

Agreed - either would be nice. if we get carson for a year, jussi can wait his contract out for us to come in in 12 months time! Have it.

Hmmmm - hardly smacks of being cash rich does it ? - Come on admitt it were skint. Don't think Carson is a good keeper - its just the liverpool factor

I said last night that I liked the idea of seeing how we get on with Carson by Jan - if good put a bid in and get him permanent. If not offer Jussi a big contract and have him sign it and agree to join at the end of season!!

Hmmmm... £2.5 mill for an average keeper with little experience for 1 year, or £3 mill for a very good keeper with lots of experience on a permanent deal??? Hard decision. NOT!
