Few links today, papers have been full of them in the last few days to be truthful but I think I'm turning into a grumpy old git because I'm not really interested in reading about links, I want to be reading about players signing and being ready for the new season in claret and blue.
West Brom's captain (or former captain after asking for a transfer I assume) Curtis Davies is still being linked to us and Spurs. He has stated that he wants out and reports say that we are in the hunt. One goes so far as to say we have offered £6million + £1m in add ons whereas Spurs have offered £5million + Wayne Routledge. If WBA set his price at £9 odd million at the start of the transfer window, why will they drop the price now though?
A report in The Mirror by James Nursey, Villa and Sunderland have apparently been joined in the 'race' for Hearts goalkeeper Craig Gordeon. The Scottish international, valued at a record breaking £9million, has had a medical and Sunderland and talked to the Black Cats manager Roy Keane. He is now due to talk to Villa. Both clubs have apparently offered £6m + £3m in add-ons.
Some reports are suggesting that the 24-year-old will make a decision today. That said, reports and rumours over the weekend suggested Villa were announcing a new signing on Monday, so to be fair, it looks like everyone is grappling in the dark and most are scratching their heads at the lack of decisive action from the Villa boss.
Scotland manager Alex McLeish is fully behind the keeper moving to the Premiership saying: 'It would be a great move. It would be fantastic for Craig as long as he plays and I don't think anyone who is willing to pay £9m for Craig Gordon is going to make him a substitute. Nothing against Hearts but this is the chance of a lifetime to go to the Premiership.'
Meanwhile The Telegraph claims Villa are set to make a £2million bid for England U21 and Arsenal fullback Justin Hoyte.
