A New Keeper Now A Priority?

Thomas Sorensen will miss the season opener against Liverpool due to a hamstring injury.

Not the best start to the season for the Denmark international, there again if reports are to be believed, Villa are in the market for a new shot stopper anyway, so maybe he wouldn't have started regardless?

Sorensen, who only has a year left on his contract, will be out for 3-4 weeks so a new keeper arriving seems even more likely now. The ex-Arsenal keeper Stuart Taylor will currently be next in line.

Sorensen told avfc.com:

'This is the first time I have sustained this sort of injury. I placed the ball to take a goal kick and just felt my left hamstring go. I don't really know what caused it. Perhaps the fact the ball was very hard, that we were playing on synthetic turf, may have contributed.'

Adding: 'I really feared the worst at first, but the physio is happy with my progress and I may need three to four weeks out. That would almost certainly rule me out of the Liverpool game, but I hope I will be fit around a week after that.'

and images return, oh thank you, all is well in the world!
The Fear
You have to love player statements "Perhaps the fact the ball was very hard". I mean, do they use different balls around the world, some made of rock and others out of leather pumped up with air.
Hoss The Villain
Bolton are in for Myhill, so looks like Jussi could be on his way!
In MON we trust!
JUSSI JUSSI JUSSI JUSSI JUSSI JUSSI JUSSI JUSSI JUSSI JUSSI REPEAT AFTER ME!
eltoro
OOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHH JUSSI JUSSI JUSSI JUSSI JUSSI, AND AGAIN
eltoro
TAKE YOUR PARTNER BY THE HAND,
eltoro
keep taking the medication :-))
Hoss The Villain
It sorta forces MONs hand now, if he had any inclination towards a new keeper then its a must after this. As long as he doesnt think a certain Hungarian keeper is "good value for money" :-(
Stourbridge Villan
CUDICINI
applesmoke
Taylor did o.k. on Saturday evening, called into action several times thanks to poor defending in front of him, but yes, in my opinion a new keeper is a must. Dont think MON is overly impressed with either Tommy or Stuart, so hopefully he wont keep dragging his feet on bringing a quality keeper into the club.
glensider
I think weve got to get a keeper now,Id like Gordon but Jussi would be great.
Pking
I wouldn't mind Kasper schmeichel but am confident we will get the Bolton guy
Christo
not sure OK is good enough though glensider, we need 'great' surely?!
The Fear
I am hoss the villan, thanks
eltoro
Lets hope we sign a keeper and a couple of players soon before the prophesy of our very own gloom and doom merchant Nostradamus AVFC48 comes true. Imagine him, he’ll be as happy as a pig in **** if we don’t make a few signings soon. I can here him foretelling the future for us all now, the end of the Villa is nigh.
Hoss The Villain
Glad to hear it eltoro... wouldn't want you worrying about all the options we have if we don't sign someone :-)
Hoss The Villain
Boruc.....................value for money at any amount £3m, £4m, £5m, £10m it doesn't matter. He visited Villa Park twice last year with his family....why ? go get him. Jussi would be good tho...either way we need someone.
astonmilan
What about an ambitious swoop for Cudicini, he must be fed up being the understudy to Chec
Donzarra
Jaaskelianen for me. Quality keeper in his prime who will get us 10 points on his own next season. Another upside to this transfer, we would be taking Bolton's best player away from them
notthedougellisstand
Boruc is also injured and will be joining a major force in Europe IF he left. Jaasklelianen isn't for sale?
tarzan
Fear there is an error when trying to suggest a poll. I thought it would be a good idea to do the following: "With Tommy Sorensen injured who would you like to see between the sticks on our opening game v Liverpool?" With choices being Stuart Taylor, Jussi Jaaskelinan, Scott Carson, Chris Kirkland, Carlo Cudicini, Boaz Myhill, Artur Boruc, Craig Gordon, Charles Itandje or Other. I think that just about covers the potential targets!!!! Anyway - over to the rest of you - who do you think?? Im going with JUSSI JAASKELINAN
deano.avfc
Gordons over priced, Cudicini is a fiar shout, he'd be in most prem 1st teams. personally i'd go with Jaaskelinan.... been solidly consistant for some years, my concern is the news of Tommy being injured may mean teams will up their price. UTV
*Holte*End*Star*
Boruc would be the ideal solution, at whatever price as astonmilan says above.
The Master
He's not for sale though!
tarzan
Cudicini would be my first choice. Jussi would be a fantastic sigining. What about Matt Murray or is he still injured?
DoLpHiNaToR
Really hope we go and get Jussi now..!
deemz
I might be reading too much into this, but get the feeling eltoro wants jussi?!
The Fear
Paddy Kenny?
tarzan
jussi would be a top top signing if we got him.behind only cech and given in prem gk stakes i reckon,go get him martin! big improvement on tommy, remember the save he made from cahill last year,he picked it out of top corner with his finger tips, unbelievable.it got save of the season on MOTD. UTV
Belfast Villain
I had the same trouble on the poll
Christo
David James . I would love it if he came back , the bloke should be Englands number 1 . Bring back James !!!
jaspervilla
but i would be happy if Jussi signs . Just not the Hungarian howler .
jaspervilla
How many weeks have we been linked with one keeper or another? As long as the new keeper isn't Hungarian - don't think I could life with those track pants again!
myleftfoot
Well its fair to assume that MON must have had IS-M and co out checking on keepers throughout last season, so surely we've a couple or three potential targets out there? Action is needed now as a matter of urgency, no more dragging our feet.
glensider
Paddy Kenny - Muwhahahaha
mackaavfc
RB and a keeper were essential last January, and now they are critical-i just cannot believe we are this underprepared,it`s f`in madness.
ASPINALL
I believe someone said Jussi is not for sale! Well...everyone is for sale if they want be. I think he is definately one of the best around and am surprised Man U have not been in for him. He would be my top choice out of all the keeper's we have been linked with.
Nigel-not-Reo
11 days to go and still no R/B at the club and Taylor to start in goal against Liverpool...? Things MUST happen this week otherwise its very poor preparation for a proffessional football club about to start a new season
deemz
Marlon Harewood - Muwhahahaha. I'm just saying we are dealing in silly prices and if Bolton have any sense they won't sell Jussi, he'll leave on a free at the end of next season - he must be on a fair whack up there? A lot of the fans on these threads think we'll sign this and that. Rightly or wrongly the fans of West Ham, Bolton, Wigan & Blackburn think they are better than us. To be honest - until we reach the standard of Spurs and Everton consistently we have no argument.
tarzan
Wonder if MON could tempt Bozzie out of retirement? A double deal with Stan Collymore perhaps? Right I'm off to get my pills!
DeanoVilla
who goes muhahaha when they laugh?
Pking
My ex-girlfriend, but only online! Canadian! Baaaah! Weirdo!
Rawlie
muhahaha
Rawlie
Carson from Liverpool would do a job for you. Any chance of getting him?
sandgroanun
How about Dave Beasant (plus demi-wave)?
tarzan
Who is reserve keeper on saturday?
silkie villain
Nigel Spink
tarzan
A quality signing is a must with the season only weeks away Villa will be a laughing stock starting with the same two keepers as last season. Last season should have been enough to highlight the deficincies.
col8
Don't think goalkeeping was our big problem last year Col8. Agree we could improve, but I think midfield and attack were the obvious areas where we needed to improve (put away more missed chances & turn more of those bloody draws into wins)....
YatesyVillain
having said that though, obviously now RB is a massive issue!
