'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Aston Villa Ladies

Aston Villa Ladies Football Club was formed in 1973 as Solihull FC. In 1989 Solihull responded to an advert from Aston Villa FC for help in forming a ladies team calling ourselves Villa Aztecs. In 1996 the Club agreed to change it's name again becoming fully recognised as the ladies team representing Aston Villa as Aston Villa Ladies FC. Two year's later the Senior Team won promotion to the National Division of the FA Women's Premier League.

Aston Villa Ladies FC has moved forward with talented girl's coached from under 10 to under 16 age. The Centre Of Excellence Academy runs with the support of the FA giving Aston Villa a chance to develop players with the hope that in years to come the club can progress to the Women's Premier League. We still run 6 'development' squads to ensure young girls who do not wish to, or do not have the ability to play at Academy level still have somewhere to go, this is totally self funded and receives no financial support from outside sources. The focus of the development is to play football for fun.

We were supported financially by AVFC Plc from 1989 until late 2005. We now have a massive club and have to find sponsorship and support where ever we can. AVFC Ltd do provide us with a training venue at the academy for 2 of our squads and a first team kit.

We have in excess of 180 players now across the age groups and are always on the lookout for more talented individuals. We are also keen to help young coaches get into grass roots football and also young referee's.

Fair play for all your hardwork. I coach girls football. Its so underated in this country its criminal (see Charlton). I've dragged alot of my friends and work collegues along to watch my girls team on various occasions and they have all been amazed at the level of skill and commitment involved. If any of you have never been to watch girls footy then you should.

Is there such a beast as a decent female goalkeeper? The snippets of womens football that I catch from time to time on t.v., always seem to capture the failings of women goalkeepers. Interesting to read some of the background relating to Aston Villa Ladies, and good that a lot of folk get a lot of pleasure out of women's football.

I always have had a fondness for a bit of box to box action involving the ladies.

Cant understand these ladies teams though that expect handouts from the professional clubs. The Charlton ladies in particular have been pretty miffed lately now that CAFC have decided to no longer support them in any way.
