not known for our patience us fans are we?! Great news though, MON is being backed (as I'm sure most of us knew he would be) and I think even Mystic Mug is happy because he predicted an unexpected signing (John Carew) last week!

Glad this was finally wrapped up, under deadly always thought he would offer the asking price for a player and then offer them rubbish wages knowing they'd turn us down so he could turn round and tell us he was trying to sign them and keep the majority of fans quiet. Waiting for a couple of days like this reminded me of this i.e. paul Robinson, James Beattie and Robbie fowler a few years back. Things have changed for the better and the future is bright.

Come on, you sad villa fans, you signed Carew and Young, not Eto'o and Ronaldinho. You still are NOT going to qualify for Europe this season, or next season as a matter of fact, and no matter how much you think you are a big club, get this into your heads, YOU ARE NOT.

OAL -The fact is spurs stole the march with Enic and hoovered up the young talent for a cut price (Carrick 2mill,Lennon 1mill,Huddlestone,1.5mill,defoe 6mill,Dawson&Reid 8mill,jenas 8mill,routledge 2mill) when they were the only ones with cash.Where were your reddys for young when trying to trade in cast offs to do a deal. The fact is well done you got quality in but you can't play em all..and players want to play. There are more big fish in the pond now sunshine!!..get used to it.

People have been talking about this lad as "the next big thing" for a few years now,he massacred the championship last year and has proved a top performer weekly in a very very poor football team, yes we have overpaid but Bale is about to go for a straight 10m?? With the Prem money from next season,i can see Young being a decent investment at the very worst / an integral part of a top-six team at best. You always judge Managers on signings and MON ( with Lord Randolph`s help) has produced Petrov,Carew,Young and that`ll do me for starters.

ASPINALL, read what you said again, "massacred the championship", speaks for itself really don't it. Rasiak couldn't score a goal in the premiership even if a keeper wasn't in it, yet he goes and "massacres the championship", doing well in the championship doesn't make a great player and i'm sure that Martin O'Neill wouldn't go out tomorrow and make a 10 million bid for Rasiak, would he???

I'm not saying Young is a crap player, he is actually a good young player with bags of potential, however, what i am saying is that he is simply not worth 10 million.

Ok,fair play to ya for backing down,i did say in my original comment we`ve overpaid but trust me for about 20 years Doug played the old "poker game" around transfers for players and we always ended up buying second choices ( i.e Sorensen when Robinson was on verge of signing but we went back on wages as one example ) that overpaying in a lot of ways is quite exciting for us Villa boys !!

I've only just signed up to this site and this is my very first comment although I have been watching and reading for the last few days. I just wanted to say a) I'm the most excited and optimistic I've been about football in years right now (Young and Carew - Get in!) and b) Lovin the "Pearly coat" & "jellied eels" comments. Lemon, as Aspinall said, you have to understand we are excited about being in a position to pay over the odds when neccessary. We're just not used to it.

When you look at the Spuds position in the league and compare it to ours - well u know it won't take a great deal money to surpass a club that has spent money like it's going of the proverbial!

AussieVilla - that may be it buddy as there is no confirmed chasing of any other players, ideally we`d get a strong centre half incase Laursen breaks down again ( Distin would be perfect ) and wouldn`t be surprised if we get another Centre Forward.

OAL - when you're talking sense you're okay but do you have to do the slagging off, actually carry it on as I like it when you stir things up. Be fair though; Villa are making the right noises and we are going to get better - FACT. Just like Spursa few years ago, we are building from within and then getting the WILL happen. I look forward to good games between us and possible nicking a few of your don't really want KEANE anymore - do you?

A very good signing for a variety of reasons. Not only has it given a huge lift to the supporters, it must obviously have boosted the feel good factor of the squad, knowing that at long last as a club we are beginning to show we actually mean business.

Its true, Villa are moving in the right direction and are signing the right players to establish yourself as a big club, but to say that you are bigger than Spurs is not right. And in my opinion i don't think you will surpass us anytime soon.

OAL you are an arse. When you say bigger club, what do you mean?In our history we have won significantly more than you. In the history of the Premier League we have performed significantly better than you. We produce more of our own talent than you. We could actually field a team made up completely of English men. We are traditionally a much bigger supported club than you, although over the last 10 years, mismanagement of our club and improved management of yours means this has equalled out. However normal service is about to be resumed on that front. How many of our star players jump ship to play for our local rivals? Do not come on here all paranoid because your team can not even beat your local rivals reserve team. We are the daddies of the midlands, you are not even the daddies of narf Landan. At the moment we are both average, but we are going places. Get used to it.

Its because your local rivals are bloody Birmingham, Its not too hard to be the biggest club in Birmingham now is it. And by the way, we got Arsenal, a premiership club to compete with. And you've got a bigger history than us, Spurs have been consistent over the past century, 2 times league champions, 8 FA cups, 3 Carling cups, 3 European Cups(2 UEFA cups and 1 European cup winners cup and another on its way this season). Villa on the other hand go through stints, e.g 80's and a couple of decades before that. Villa do produce their own players like Gabby Agbonlahor, Barry etc, but thats your policy. Tottenham's policy however, is to buy young talent and develop them into internationals, e.g Lennon, Defoe etc. But let's stop talking about history, let's talk about the future, and i can tell you that Tottenham's future looks brighter than Villa's.
