Carew Mega Wages Drivel

Martin O'Neill says the reports that John Carew is on £57 000 is 'utter drivel'

He also says: 'On his day, he's a real handful. He's quick and he's a big lad. If he can steer clear of serious injuries, I think he'll do well for Villa. I watched him recently in a match against Real Madrid and he certainly caused Cannavaro plenty of problems.'

Adding about the suggestions in a local paper he is on mega wages: 'That's complete and utter nonsense. He was on decent money at Lyon, which we obviously had to match, but that's the height of it and it's not remotely near the figure mentioned. We've not reached anything like those figures for anybody here and this report is utter drivel.'

'Obviously wages can pay an important part, but the fact is that the player wanted to come here and we've not had to 'lure' him.'

Thats good then. The last thing we need is some big time charlie disrupting the harmony that MON is trying to create.

We've not reached anything like those figures for anybody here and this report is utter drivel. Like so many other press stories about ASTON VILLA Utter drivel... got a certain ring to it.......

I aint bothered what hes on (unless its an illegal substance) to be honest. If Lucas Neil is worth £60k a week then anything goes IMHO.

agreed if we continue on the up then big wages will be unavoidable. I think MON has done this to ensure other squad members dont throw the toys out the pram.

It isn't £57 000, it is £56 500, stupid bloody newspapers getting it wrong!!!! LOL
The Fear
Thats what I heard Mr Fear but also heard its £500 a goal bonus on top! I'll settle for us paying him £58,000 a week under those terms! EVERY WEEK!

I hope the wage quoted is correct. If we're going to get top players, in the current market, that's going to be the least we need to pay. So 20+ squad players on £3mill pa is going to more than double the wage bill which last year was about £32mill in total. Just shows how little was paid under Ellis. No wonder everyone wanted to leave. I hope that stayed, Like Barrry and Mellberg and our youngsters like Moore, Davis, Gabby, Cahill, Ridgewell and Gardner are also being looked after. I can’t imagine that MON would do otherwise but treat everyone fairly.

It raised a few eye-brows when the figure first appeared in print, but common sense surely told everyone that the statement was totally false? Disagree with DeanoVilla. Someday someone, hopefully someday soon will come into the club and blast the pay structure currently in effect, right out of the water. If that is going to 'disrupt the harmony', then so be it. Its called progress and development, and we cant hold off paying huge salaries just because it might upset a few ego's.

Any story can and will be invented to remove the gloss and sparkle that now surrounds an Aston Villa move into the transfer market. We're now competing again.
