Villa & Lyon Swap Strikers

Aston Villa have confirmed the signing of striker John Carew from Lyon and the departure of Milan Baros in the opposite direction.

The 27-year-old Norwegian international has signed a 3 1/2 year deal.

Date of Birth: 05.09.1979
Height: 1.93m (6'1')
Played for: Valerenga, Rosenborg, Valencia, Roma (loan), Besiktas, Lyon (joining them in June 2005 scoring 10 goals in 40 appearances).

Gérard Houllier paid £5.1m to take him from Besiktas.

Carew has 14 goals in 57 appearances for Norway.

So Martin O'Neill has himself a big burley target man, be interesting to see who plays off him and how the Norwegian settles into the Premiership, certainly the sort who should be up for the battle!

Really happy, BUT does this count as a signing being a swap deal and all? Am i being greedy?

I was happily surprised to realise he is still only 27! Seems like the guy has been around for years...good champs league experience and if MON can work his man management magic who knows maybe a goal scorer at villa!! (Shock Horror)

Good trade. A big guy who is more fit than Sutton to supplement our speedy kids. Excellent.

Isn't Carew a bit bigger than 6ft 1"? Read somewhere he was nicknamed the "Hulk" cos he was 6ft 4" or something? Is there any sign of money changing hands or is it just a straight swap?

Just glad it went ahead and was not just another rumour mill spin story.

He's definitely the type of frontman we've needed for some time. A great signing. What a pity though that seeing a Carew/Baros partnership has been denied us. Will make the trek up to Tyneside next Wednesday even more enjoyable, particularly if we clinch the Ashley Young deal. Exciting times at B6.

Very happy for both parties. I didnt want Baros to leave at first, even though hed underperformed, but he ahd to break out away and im happy for him, just watch him at Lyon, hell reach that potential we all wished hed reached here. Happy to get Carew, ive only heard good things about him

Mixed feelings about this, would love to have seen Baros do the biz for Villa, but he didn't so welcome John Carew and let's hope YOU do the biz.

Good move for both players. Both need to re-ignite their careers. Baros was going nowhere at VP, quality player though he was, so its a fresh opportunity for him to produce.
