Milan Baros Departs Aston Villa?

According to Reuters Czech Republic international striker Milan Baros has joined Olympique Lyon from Aston Villa.

There are no further details apart from the fact the announcement was apparently made on the Ligue 1 sides official website.

Other reports have been linking Villa to a swap deal, Baros for John Carew.

Will believe it when it is confirmed on our official site. At the moment the Lyon site won't load for me!

Oh well it has been inevitable for some time, and Baros's perfomrance have shown that. Good move for the player and the club.

The blow will be slightly softened if Carew signs, you watch Baros score absolutely shed loads for Lyon though.

Sad to see him go, he has quality, damn frustrating that we still have no confirmation on young. And if SSN is right and MON isn't at Villa the afternoon, then its either good (already signed) or very bad.

just hope that our future signings start to work out a bit better, we've had a history of disasters of late and it is a shame. I did think he'd do the business for us but he obviously didn't fit into plans. Think it is a rubbish move for him though Deano, you watch another season and he'll be moving again. So John Carew incoming then?

I wonder how long it will be before we see the new signings booed. 3 or 4 weeks, or is that too optimistic?

I think Baros will do well in the not-so-physical French League. Good news about Carew - big, strong, intimidating forward, just what we need.

I managed to log onto the lyon's site, it says they're having a press conference 4pm their time which is about any time now. I'm curious to see if there's any money involved coming our way or a straight swap with Carew... Either way, you'd imagine we'll be making announcements today too.

Shame it did'nt work. Here's hoping we can get some quality in soon.Too many going in the other direction.Carew would be the target man we need and MON likes ( Heskey/Sutton---Carew!?). Fingers crossed

Me too jonah - a quick dribble, a wayward shot, and I scored! Didn't last the full 90 mins though :o)

Pongo, you're right about the physicality of leagues. Just because Baros scores in France doesn't mean he could do it here. Our style of football doesn't suit him. Look at the Man U forward that went to Villareal, Forlan. Scored shed loads in Spain. Carew might not score shed loads here but part of the plan has to be for him to hold the ball up and play in our speed merchants. He should be a good team player.

Carew would be a great signing for many fans as his name rhymes with Boo. I give it three weeks or a couple of missed chances before the brain dead start booing who ever it is we sign.

looks like if we ever got into europe we would all score! Lets hope for an away match against Ajax. Goodby Mr Baros if our team was better and you had better service over the past few years you could have been a hero, some things were not meant to be so cheerio, cheerio, cheerio.

not sure what the whole deal involves at the moment, Baros has signed for Lyon but for an undisclosed fee, Carew is supposed to be coming to us but not sure if it is a straight swap for Baros..? No confirmation of the Baros sale on the club website and no mention of Carew or Young signed by us..? guess it is a very hectic day at villa park and all should be revealed by the end of the day.... I HOPE...!

Well Baros is at Lyon Number 7 with Houllier and some small dude. There is only a picture and no details of how the deal is constructed or any text in their news section. They are jumping the gun a little me thinks and the Villa want to get ink on the paper before sounding the fanfare!

Carew has signed ..a 3 and half year deal. he got into Brum this morning ahead of Baros leaving for France. Lets hope that his arrival doesnt mean we dont get Young. Nothings been said today about him. I would like to wish Milan well....and thank him for those two goals he scored to beat Blues last season.

Wasn't keen on the signing of Milan Baros, didn't rate the guy. But I soon changed my opinion. Good luck to him in France. I hope he realises his true potential. A shame and a disappointment that it didn't happen for him here at Villa Park, the blame for his 'failure' wasn't entirely down to him. Always very sad to see a quality player leave Villa Park in an attempt to find success elsewhere. It has happened all too often during recent years.

Wouldn't be overly surprised to see Milan back in the Premiership though before too long. The French league is surely not high profile enough for someone of his ability and profile. Even all the better home grown players want out, heading to the more lucrative leagues.
