O'Neill Hopefull On Young Transfer

Martin O'Neill has updated the Villa faithful over the attempted signing of Watford's Ashley Young.

O'Neill told the official site:

'We're hopeful, but because we had the game today, we thought we'd let things settle down. In principle he's agreed to come, which is good news. I'm obviously hopeful and I think, from speaking to him, he'd be pretty pleased to come here.'

Adding: 'But, like everything else, you can't take anything for granted and we'll let the supporters know as soon as we have anything concrete.'

But will he solve our lack of a cutting edge?
myleftfoot
Of course he won't, not on his own but you can't expect us to buy all the players we want all at once. I don't know if this lad is any good but at least it sends the signal to other potential targets that we mean business.

Well if we are going to solve the goal scoring situation this month, then yes we are going to have to buy players all at once! The clock is ticking.

What's happened with the Polish striker we were linked with ? It looks as though Baros is on his way so a replacement must be lined up! But who ?

he wont score all the goals buthe will create and mke our attack about 10 times as dangerous than it is!!! plus if the swap deal of baros for john carew. now there is a quality player. played at many top clubs and is a great finisher its worth a try instead of baros cos if carew comes here and finds form he is seriously gd. it may not work out but it cant be as bad as 1 goal or no show baros and angel respectively. BRING ON YOUNG AND CAREW ADN EUROPEAN PLACEMENT

If we can secure the signing of Ashley Young then it will definitely be a step in the right direction. Wont solve all of our problems obviously, but it will be another important step towards MON building his team. Hopefully we'll get the lad to put pen to paper, an action that will get the word out that AVFC are back in business.

I still like Baros. Yesterday he worked hard but had an off day in front of goal. It doesn't matter what level of football you play, or how much you are paid, that can happen. However I think a forward line of made up three players as we did earlier in the season is what our immediate future is. And having a choice of Baros, Young, Moore and Agbonlahor is exciting, fast and has loads of potential. Goalscorers are hard to find, so it would be foolish to let a quality one go. M'ON has to find how to get the best out of Baros. Two years ago he was the top scorer at the Euro Championships. To have had him at VP and then let him go without getting the best from him will be a massive mistake.

Watford fan told me that Young is quality, definitely destined for the top, but is not yet the finished product. At his tender years though, what else would we expect. Fingers crossed time.
