O'Neill - Great Win For Villa

Martin O'Neill reacted to the 2-0 win over Championship bound Watford saying it was a 'great win'.

After a nervous and scrappy game he said: 'We fully deserved the three points today. It was a great win. I thought the players played very, very well under a great deal of pressure today. Obviously there was a lot of tension before and during the game - right up to the first goal. So it was a phenomenal relief for myself, for the players and of course for the fans when we finally got the ball in the net.'

Adding: 'I thought the players coped very well with the tension and played some decent stuff. We created four or five great chances in the first-half and I wondered if it was going to be another one of those days. Then we had some sublime chances in the second-half and time was running away. But I always thought we could continue plugging away and creating chances.'

'That's a great credit to the players that they never stopped believing that we could get the breakthrough. It was a deflected goal in the end, but I honestly believe we deserved the three points today and I don't care how the first goal came. Thomas Sorensen deserves credit for a great save at the end of the first-half. That was a crucial moment and he played his part, as did the whole back-four and I'm delighted with the clean-sheet.'

Match report to follow, either that or I'll away for my tea!

Didn't think a goal was coming, and the long term effects of failing to win today could have been disastrous. It would have dealt the already low confidence level of the lads a real hammer blow. Thought our back four looked solid again after being somewhat shaky in recent weeks. Set us up nicely for the little jaunt up to Tyneside on Wednesday week.

Hopefully the revival starts here

The Watford revival might too. They looked a bunch of fighters who certainly wont give up easily.
