Ashley Young Sits Out Villa Game

Vital Villa asked for your predictions for today's must win game against Watford and 83% of Villans are in confident mood saying the fightback will begin today and we'll win.

11% predicted a loss and just 6% a draw despite our draw specialist tag this season.

Aston Villa (from): Sorensen, Taylor, Bardsley, Hughes, Mellberg, Cahill, Ridgewell, Bouma, Samuel, Agbonlahor, McCann, Davis, Osbourne, Barry, Angel, Baros, Hendrie, Angel.

Watford (from): Foster, Lee, Mariappa, Mackay, DeMerit, Stewart, Doyley, Powell, Shittu, Smith, Bangura, Mahon, McNamee, Francis, Williamson, Jarrett, Young? Bouazza, Henderson, Priskin, Hoskins, Ashikodi.

According to The Sun Ashley Young won't play for Watford today as he considers a transfer to Villa Park.

They say Young, who turned down West Ham flat this week, is 'in two minds about Villa' adding that Spurs are still interested and he would prefer a move to White Hart Lane.

Martin O’Neill said: “I was very impressed with the lad when I met him but the irony is that we play Watford this weekend and that has complicated things. This is not a whim. I have seen Watford loads of times this season and when they see me coming they say ‘oh no, not again.’ I think we were the first people to bid and I hope we can do the deal. People might talk about the money but they said Cristiano Ronaldo was over-priced when he arrived at Manchester United for 12m and now he is worth quadruple that.'

Adding “You have to look at the value over the next four or five years. He has the ability to play for England. We are striving to improve our squad and I believe he can improve it. I would expect to know what is happening after the end of the game. I would much say everything was sorted but it’s happened so quickly and it might not materialise.”

Be interesting to see if Phil Bardsley makes his debut today at the expense of Aaron Hughes.

Your Comments

Martin O'Neill has stated he will know if Ashley Young will be a Villa player or not by the time the Watford Teams coach leaves Villa Park tonight.
still skeggy
Nice comments from MON, what a legend! He really knows how to speak to the papers. He keeps his cards close to his chest and doesnt mess the fans around.

I'd hope so, if the answer isn't forthcoming then it would be time to move on and get someone who is keen I'd have thought. Don't blame the lad assessing his options though, he is only young so this step is a massive one. Lucky bleeder.
The Fear
How much do reckon he'll be on a week if he joins?? 50k? I think a few others will want payrises if that happens.
son_of_cher
not a bad job really is it? 50-60k to play the game you love. I'm not bitter at all........! :(
The Fear
MON I would expect to know what is happening after the end of the game. Anyone on coach watch to see if he jumps onboard to return to Watford? I hope Villa comprehensivly beat Watford to help Young make his mind up.

Never nind Young Im praying that Samual starts cos if hes not he might get angry and leave. That would be a disaster.
Pking
Do we really want a player who'd rather be somewhere else
Christo
On the level - my source informs me that Young is coming for 38k a week! No lies. Double stamp.
koolbill
Pking, I take it that was tongue in cheek - if not - bend over as I'm about to kick some butt.
koolbill
i hope not 38k a week cos then that wud be jus stupid. i dont mind 9mill but high contract is not gd. then again we do need him and hopefully our vision of the future is enuff to persuade him. i think he wud fit in bloody well and also make our team look doubly more potent in attak cos at the mo long haired slow injury prone foreigners aren really cuttin. PLEEEZZZ ASHLEY!! JUS COME!!!
GABBY16
everyone seems to be making a huge amount of fuss around an untried kid with less than 25 Premiership appearances who if he comes to Villa will have cost a fortune paid by a manager who swore he wouldn't be held to ransom over player transfer fees. I've never seen him play so i can't comment on how good he is but he's certainly not worth all this dramatic crap some are coming up with. Having driven Baros and several others out or nearly out for next to nothing seems really poor mangement to me to spend such a sum on an untried kid, he's no Rooney, or Ronaldo and some say not as good as Gabby, who scored again when played through the middle

Kollbill put your boot away sir.Sarcasim is very difficult to convey through the medium of text.
Pking
Pking - I know mate, I read your other strings first, very good. Perhaps we could combine feet and give JLS a proper send off?! Get rid of him and get Upson and Carew I say.
koolbill
Like the Australian prime minster in the Simpsons. One massive boot.Give Angel one while were at it.No more chances for players that aren't delivering.
Pking
Sensible for both camps that he didn't play. Big decision for the lad, no wonder he's taking his time over a decision.
