Lyon Boss Confirms Baros Interest

Gerard Houllier, manager of Lyon, has confirmed he has had a change of heart and has made an enquiry for Villa striker Milan Baros.

Houllier had said he wouldn't give Baros a second chance to turn him down but now says he is interested in taking the forward who he managed whilst Liverpool manager.

He told Lyon's official site today, 'Yes, I can confirm that I have seen Milan Baros' agent. Only fools never change their minds.'

Well they cant have him Baros seems recently to be getting back on track and I think we should keep him a bit longer

He is an excellent player and in a team creating chances would excel. There is no 'quality replacement' - unless you want to spend 20 million on Jermaine Defoe.

is he quality though? i mean ok hes fast, good touch and everything and scores goals for his country. but does he pick out a pass? has he ever changed a game for us? does he even look up when hes running with the ball? why does he always need a 5 yard sprint when he first has the ball and run into trouble? how many times has he taken the game to the opposition, and won the game for us when we've needed him? a quality player surely needs these attributes as well

"is he quality though? i mean ok hes fast, good touch and everything and scores goals for his country" - this would suggest he is quality to me.

Baros has been around in the premiership for some time now, and he hasnt done much to light it up. I dont know why you would want to hold on to him, lots of potential, but can he score 20 goals in a season for villa? i doubt it.

Never been a fan of Baros, but needs must, I just wish he would put in a dazzling performance to show the quality he seems to have been lacking since his move to Villa.

Nearly everything that Its all over FC is right \, except hes not that quick and his touch isn't that good.

But we should only sell him if we get someone in, i'm sick of us selling all of our players before we get anyone in. Are youngsters are not that good that they will kep us in the premiership with out a problem

yeah agreed, i would be interested to see a carew/baros partnership, similar to koller/baros. doesnt look like its going to happen though. mackaavfc, it takes more than speed and touch to be a quality player. rooney, ronaldo, henry - they are quality. compare what they contribute to what baros contributes.

I think Baros is top quality but needs quality around him in order to set him up. we haven't played through balls properly to him or played to his feet since he arrived. Be interesting to know how he gets on with the other players + manager, wonder if there is an attitude problem or soemthing? Certainly was rubbish reading all the agent stuff last week.

He's looking better because he wants a move! shop window is all, but would like to keep a committed Baros all the same.

Just one thought. If Houlllier has spoken to Baros' agent I sincerely hope Lyon have agreed a fee with Villa.....

Wouldn't sell unless we're offered £5-6m. Not our best player and needs a rocket up his arse at times, but is still a good player and someone who if there form continues to progress, could be a vital part of the side.

Presumably Baros will be out of contract next season, so £3mill now would be tops; but we should only sell after we replace him with a striker who is in his “prime”, with proven scoring ability at the top level, Doyle could fit the bill if Reading will release him after he's completely recovered from his injury. News on the Pole has gone quiet.

JF - I'd like to see Baros playing down the right flank with Gabby either in the centre; or down the left when Luke Moore returns. Angel - let him go, he's now past his best and not quick enough for Prem. competition.

Yes, but not if Ashley Young is his replacement. Only if we have someone on Baros' level, which is pretty low as of late but someone established.

I'm resigned to losing him, believing that he in all probability he does want out, and secondly because I dont think MON is convinced about him anyhow. The real sad part of all this though, is once again a top quality player feels he's unable to achieve his ambitions at Villa Park, and feels the need to move on.

Does Baros still have the release clause in his contract DOL was banging on about?

Baros looks slow nowadays and he doesnt like being played up front on his own. If he couldnt score 20 goals a season for Liverpool then i doubt he will be able to score them for us. He's due another injury anyday too

agree with Tierney, should not be sold unless we get 5-6 million unless he is a 'problem' player in training etc.

Not sure about playing him wide villacross, think he'd get lost out there and looks like an out-and-out goal poacher to me. Still say he is quality, but he really does split the fans doesn't he? Shame, with the right service he'd be a 20 goal a season striker, surely?

Quality is undoubted and he really needs to play off a big man.If we can get Carew in that would be a great partnership. It is obvious his attitude has not been right but lately he seems to have turned the corner and is believing in himself as he is now going past players(Utd last week for assist) and MON is playing him.Best finisher at the club.

Angel is undoubtably the best finisher once he gets into the positions. Problem now is is that he's too slow and can't get in the positions!

My neighbour says he's crap, he tells me that week in, week out. Funny thing is my neighbour has only been to three home games all season. Baros is a proven international quality striker, and instead of continually heaping blame on him, we need to look at ourselves as a club, how we've played him, and how we've serviced him.
