Mark Delaney Undergoes Surgery

Injury plagued Wales international right-back Mark Delaney, who has now seen two seasons decimated by injury problems and bad luck, has had a 'successful' knee operation in America. I think this is make or break for the defenders career and he has now been treated by World renowned specialist Dr Richard Steadman who also sorted fellow Villan Martin Laursen.

Martin O'Neill said: 'He's had an operation and I think that's gone OK, but we don't have any more news on that at the moment.'

Not the longest quote in the world, but it does the job I guess! Good luck Mark, hope you are soon back and fit.

I agree, this saga has gone on long enough now

we should just claim back 2 years on insurance

would still be a usefull addition to the squad, I know its a long time ago but if my memory serves me right he was quite decent
steff_the_villan
good, let him play afew reverve games to attract a championship side and send him on his way

Can we just leave him in America?

emphasis on WAS Steff, been that long now, and he's had so many injuries, who knows what he will be like?

Very solid when he played centre back at times last season - I think when he gets fit and playing, MON will not want to let him go. He's versatile and fully commited - too much sometimes hence the injuries. I'm just praying this time he can stay fit and get back on the pitch playing.

Out of contract in July. He'll be on his way then and we won't get a penny. Pity he didn't stay fit he was a decent player.

Maybe time to call it a day Mark? You have to hope, that all of these surgeries dont leave Mark restricted in any way during his later years. There's only so much chopping and cutting a body can take before it begins to bite back. He's going to be a long time out of the game, perhaps he needs to start considering his post playing days.

glensider fair comment I have to say I cant really remember a time when he was not Injured, I would like him to return to full fitness but I doubt he will have a new contract when the current one expires. By the same token I cant see clubs queueing for his services on a lengthy contract. Pay as you play maybe but he needs to look long and hard at his playing situation.

If he ever gets fit again we should get what we can for him. Too bad, he had his moments when healthy.
