Aston Villa Agree Young Fee

The official website have announced that the club have agreed a fee with Watford star Ashley Young in a reported £9.65million deal.

Young, who has been chased recently by West Ham (rejected once) and Spurs (rejected by Watford) will now talk to Martin O`Neill about a move to the Midlands.

Finally some transfer action, woohoo!

probably a good place and good manager to improve his trade and skills, would of liked to see him come to arsenal, but a better move than west ham or spuds.

Wouldn't be too surprised to see Martin Jol back in with a late renewed bid. Come on Martin and Randy. Your task now is to sell the club and its vision to the lad. Still in the early stages, a lot of talking, selling, and convincing to be done. Fingers crossed though. A completed deal would get the message out that AVFC are back in business.

I doubt Tottenham will pay that much, he is completely overpriced, but is what we have to do at the moment because we are desperate for new blood and he seems to be the only decent player available. Good business for watford though, and their car salesman manager.

Lads, lets be honest here.....how much have we really seen of Young? If we paid that much, he'd be our record signing and i dont believe he's worth that much. If he came to Villa and embellished our supply line; got into the England team, scared the daylights out of all and sundry etc i'd be happy. But geeesh..almost 10 MILLION ? I think we're being held to ransom here. I'm happy if we sign players but not just for the sake of it. He could be our only signing..... I will however give MoN the benefit if he feels Young is for the future.

shows our ambition but i feel it's too much to pay. at this stage of our development i feel we should be in the market for good players round the 5-6 million mark. a club like ours should only be spending really big money like 10million if that player would be the 'icing on the cake' to add to an already good team.

Lets just hope he isnt named in Watford team tomorrow - that would be a real sign he is on his way by Monday. Unless they get it done and dusted today. He would be a class buy and no-one better will move this month in my opinion!!

Dee1 - has anyone told you Ellis is no longer our Chairman? Or are you worried because you are personally paying for the transfer yourself? We all moan we want a signing and then when we are about to get one we all moan hes overpriced in a market where Heskey goes for £5.5m? Stop moaning!! Our chairman (NOT ELLIS) is a billionaire and we have a top manager, if they think hes worth it then i cant see how we can possibly question them. Well done MON and Randy even if he doesn't sign you have signalled your intent to the fans and the rest of the Premiership, for which i thank you.

I think I better mention my 'one trick'. Lets hope that he signs before tomorrow, because if he comes and sees what a ground with 10,000 - 15,000 empty seats looks and sounds like, we haven't got a chance afterwards. Or maybe I will be wrong and we will get the best part of 40,000. As I see it, Ellis has gone, replaced by a billionaire, who is investing in the infrasructure of the club (Holte Hotel, Bodymoor Heath). We have the most sought after manager in the league and the nuleus of the team that is young, British and in some cases local Villa supporters. The new owners have tried lots of ticket initiatives to help the fans including free travel. We have supporter consultation groups. And finally we are 8 points better off from the same games against last season. On top of all that we have agreed the biggest fee of the transfer window and this for a young, English forward. Everything is positive and the fans will fill Villa Park tomorrow to show their appreciation. We will see!

An awful lot of money for a "rookie". I re-ran the film of our game against the Hornets last year and he didn’t impress. I think he's only scored twice so far this season, so that's not very impressive either. But hey.ho what do I know. But still think that SWP is better investment, even at twice the amount Watford are asking for Young. Also feel that Spurs are not yet out of it with cash + players deal.

This is great news that we are up there and competing to buy one of the most promising players in the country and as said by several others, although the price may seem inflated, i put my trust in MON and Randy to buy the right players to fit their plans ahead and as with everything its a case of supply and demand and there aint much supply at the moment. Hopefully MON (maybe with some help from Gabbie) can use his powers of persuasion. Mind you, i only hope he ends up being a btter signing than that other winger we signed from Watford Nigel Callaghan - one of the worst players i've ever seen in a Villa shirt.
