January Transfer Window Talk 2

Our previous January Transfer rumours thread got 219 comments and is now pretty much full January Transfer Window Talk so I've set up this new sticky to continue driving ourselves mad with links and gossip that we all know will probably come to nothing with total surprises arriving instead!

So far we have, amongst others, been linked to:

Goalkeeper: Matt Murray

Defenders: Richard Stearman, Greg Halford - Colchester, Phil Bardsley of Man Utd, Matthew Upson from Small Heath, Curtis Davies from West Bromwich Albion, Portsmouth right-back Andy Griffin, Oldham right-back Neil Eardley. Abel Xavier from Middlesbrough,

Midfielders: Joey Barton of Man City, James Milner of Newcastle, Shaun Wright-Phillips from Chelski, Zoltan Gera from WBA, Reading's Kevin Doyle. Ashley Young from Watford. Barry Ferguson from Rangers, Reo Coker from West Ham.

Strikers: David Nugent from Preston, Jermain Defoe and/or Robbie Keane from Spurs, Darren Bent from Charlton, Sean Maloney from Celtic, Freddy Eastwood from Southend, Kevin Davies from Bolton, Mark Viduka from Boro), Alan Smith from Manchester United, Craig Bellamy (old link from rumour thread), Peter Crouch from Liverpool, James Beattie from Everton, Marlon Harewood from West Ham.

And the list goes on...

So far in: Phil Bardsley, from Manchester United, on loan until the end of the season.

Interestingly enough we haven't been linked to many foriegn players from the foriegn leagues, apart from that striker the other day who's name I cant remember. Surely we've scouted the world in preparation for this transfer window?

Interesting the comments about David Nugent. I've long felt we should seriously pursue this guy. Bring him and Robbie Keane on board as our new strike force, and I'll promise to lay off my next door neighbour who irritates the hell out of me for being one of the stay-away, part time, armchair Villans, and consequently incurs my wrath every time I see him.

I read that Sheffield Utd have valued jagielka at 9m too. Its maddness these players are worth 4-5 mil tops. i think M'oN will have to spend over the odds to get players if he wants to get anyone in, and i have a feeling he will Just to build up the squad a bit. But where will this leave us in the summer when the clubs of every player we go for starts asking double what the player is worth.

I've just had a think about who we really need in and if the following came, it would make us a very strong side. Bardsley (loan to buy) SWP (loan to buy) Sidwell (4 mill) Young (9 mill. Crazy I know but will be a great player for years to come) Alan Smith (loan to buy) That's spending 15 mill now and lining up the loan players to buy in the summer. They surely wouldn't want to leave if they are playing every match, gaining confidence and pushing for europe. They will also see the ambition of the club. That would leave us with a starting 11 of Sorenson, Bardsley, Mellberg, Laursen, Barry, SWP, Sidwell, Petrov, Young, Smith and Baros. Leaving a very strong bench from Taylor, Cahill, McCann, Moore, Gabby + Davis, Angel, Ridgewell, Hughes, Gardner for cover. I'm wasted in IT!

The Daily Mail is reporting that Shaun Wright-Phillip's will have his future resolved by the weekend. Aston Villa are the club that is leading the race for the winger, 8m is the price being labbeled with the move, a massive knock-down from what Chelsea paid, 21m. Villa boss Martin O'Neill is keen to add Wright-Phillips to his team despite the player being a let-down for Chelsea. Milan Baros could also be part of the deal, heading in the opposite direction.

Melberg is definately to inconsistant going on the last couple of years. He definately started well this year, untill he was moved to right back where he has been pretty poor. I think he needs a run of games in the centre, if he can pull off the form of a few years back, then great, if he cant i think he will find himself warming the bench or being sold. We definately need to get a quality centre back in if we want to go anywhere.

SWP was one of the best players in the premier league when he was at city. wether he can rediscover that form is a differant story. At Chelsea he has to play a completly diferant style than he did at City. Chelsea dont play wide at all, and play really defensive where their wingers have to get back behind the ball all the time. They has completly ruined the confidence of nearly all the wingers that have played their, SWP, Duff, and Robben. None of them look the players they they do elsewhere, ie City, Ireland and Blackburn, and Holland.

Jonah, I'm a little concerned. We've seen that what MON wants he doesn't necessarily gets. I think he's a man of principle and might not want to be held to ransome by clubs. What concerns me is the players leaving and only positively linked to 2 players. Young and SWP. Neither appear to be on their way for one reason or another. And with 3 gone we're ina worse position. I think players like Boa Morte, Coker and Sidwell would put pressure on what we have and any super summer signings we might get. Our squad is so depleted we could do with them. Suppose I'm just panicking and getting fed up of Newsnow. Just don't want to be dragged into a relegation battle.

I've been talking about Carew for ages but i guess we get to see more of him here in Norway as he's a norwegian international. Personally I think he's a clumsey fool but you can't argue with results, he gets a fair number of goals and has CL experience. He's the perfect MON type player with a good workrate, strong and relatively quick (not Gabby quick you understand :-) ) and gives his all for the team. Not sure about his commitement off the pitch though as he has changed clubs quite a few times. I think he would complement an exiting creative and quick player like Baros should be and like Gabby and Moore are becomeing, very well and could solve our striking problems, especially if we could get Bent or Keene too, that would be awesom (can't play the kids every game, they need time to develope). It's also important to remember that Scandinavian players often transfer to the English game extreemly well. As I said, I personally don't like him but setting my prejudice aside, I think he'd be great for the team.

Voiceoftheholte - where's this mythical 8m midfielder you had heard about? Gone quiet again! Competition time, where would we like to stick Martin's Pole?

Please dont laugh (cue histeria) but Spuds are apparently listening to offers for Wayne Routledge, surely as good a shout as Young at a fraction of the price?

Monday 15th, 18.48hrs. The "Insiders" are putting their money on ASHLEY YOUNG at 9mill, CRAIG BELLAMY at 6.5mill and SWP at 12mill - all making permanent moves to VP within the next 7 days. Also, FYI - cash + CROUCH for OWEN from Newcastle. Watch this space!

Baros is definately on his way out and its well known we need some one on the right side. Looks like its out of SWP and Ashley Young on the right and the striker could be anyone with this Pole linked today. Cant see anything more than another loan signing and one more big deal if someone becomes available.

Chelsea accepted WHAM bid of 9.8m for SWP, why now 12m?

Routledge = definate yes been saying it for ages, were crying out for a right winger so gabby can be rested............That Polish guy Radoslaw Matusiak looks handy (only judging on video eveidence by the way) but seems as though he's quick, skillful and can finish. Both cheap buys that can only help our cause

Young has turned down the hammers apparantly in a 9.65m deal according to sky....Both SWP and him dont want to go to curbishly's sinking ship. Surely we must get one of them??????

Radoslaw Matusiak looks pretty damned good in the Polish league -surely worth a gamble of 3 mill. Whoevere we get though, needs the ball and support.

Jaspervilla -I'll hold you to that! Another snippet - MON won't take any more foreign players so dismiss more Euro players coming to VP unless seasoned successfully in the Premiership. Also watch out for Hendrie starring again in the near future, in his run-up to a "testimonial" next May with our '82 stars.

mackaavfc - Villa will outbid WHAM if SWP has the desire to play for us. Even at 10mill, he's too expensive for Spurs. This one will go to the "wire".

villacross you are on drugs man. Liverpool won't sell Bellamy. SWP will stick it out at Chelsea until the summer on 60k per week to see where Maureen goes. Its depressing to be linked to the Pole

Routledge doesn't want to go to Watford that's for sure. Coleman wants to sign him at Fulham and I think he's happy there. However, if we offer more money you never know. Still think we need a target man (MON loves them) as Angel and Sutton are unreliable. Still think there will be more signings just to beef up the squad. Nothing elaborate until the summer.
