First Villa Signing Made

Aston Villa have made their first signing, albeit on loan.

Villa have sealed the loan until the end of the season for Manchester United right-back Phil Bardsley.

The 21-year-old Salford lad will be able to make his debut against Watford on January 20 at Villa Park.

I hope this is with a view to a permanent deal, not just a stop-gap until Summer
jonah
Agree, and I hope the future fee has been agreed upfront, coz if he plays well for us his value could rocket.
DeanoVilla
Glamour...saying that, he's better than Hughes!!
DixonTheVillain
That's not saying much...I'm better than Hughes :-)
jonah
Strikers!! we need Strikers and not Craig f##king Bellamy
kentvilla
Midfielders!! We need midfielders. This stinks of the Milner deal. Oh well.
tarzan
its a start
samtozer
It'll do for now. More players will be available in August. I'll echo the comments about Hughes tho... i like him personally but he doesn't fill me with confidence of any sort at the moment.
The Usual Suspect
One problem position taken care of, although possibly only temporarily. We couldn't allow that right full back position to continue as was though, so welcome aboard Mr Bardsley.
glensider
Will we have any money in august if we spend well in Jan??
kentvilla
I'd be happy with the following come 1 Feb. Sorenson, Bardsley, Laursen, Mellberg, Barry, SWP, McCann, Petrov, Young, Smith, Gabby.
DixonTheVillain
I really cant see this SWP thing happening and where did the Bellamy story come from there appears to be no substance in it at all 9m? why has his value gone up 3m?
Pking
Ambassador....with this Bardsley you are really spoiling us :)
tylervilla
The bellamy story came from the same place as all the other stories and thats the rumour mill. Unless it comes from MON's mouth then everything else is rumours
kentvilla

mackaavfc
Certainly has similarities to the Milner deal. There is no mention of any future fee involved, which would be naieve to say the least. I think this could be a demonstration of the difficulty MON is having getting clubs to sell their best players in January. I'm a little concerned that the Wright-Phillips interest seems to be a loan move too. He's talking to West Ham, so he's available on a permenant deal. Let's pay the money and get him

i have also heard Zack nights name being thrown around as well

Lonliness and vitalfootball is a dangerous mix.

very damgerous

we have all of Randy's money and Martin goes and makes a loan deal for a Man U reject
Christo
Not sure he is a reject Christo. I was speaking to a couple of Man U fans at the weekend and he is highly rated there. My hope is, as I said at the beginning of this thread, that this is a loan deal with a view to a permanent move.
jonah
If he is good enough for Man U they will not let him go. If he is not good enough then he is a Man U reject and then if we must ask if he is good enough for the mighty claret and blue. I dont count this as our first signing - its our first stop gap measure.
tylervilla
Loan palyers are better than non players, I see J lloyd being played left mid from now on...left back = Leighton Baines, wigan have been pretty quiet about him
son_of_cher
Yeh im being too negative on reflection...I want something to get us excited! Cheerleaders qualify.
tylervilla
tylervilla, by your logic every player sold is a reject, so let me ask you, if not Man U's rejects, then who's are good enough for you? Clubs sell for various reasons, not least that they don't need a player as they already have sufficent cover in that area and their first choice is eiher better or just fits their syatem/style of play better. Tell me, was Jap Stam a Man U reject. I would not have minded him at Villa, and the same goes for Ruud Van Nistleroy and to a lesser extent Roy Keene (at the time he left, in his hay day any team would have welcomed him). I can't uderstand why a okayer being allowed to move is a reject but we all want SWP, a Chelsea reject. Dont forget Paul McGrath was a Man U reject as was David Platt and Stan Stauntion was a Liverpool reject. Absolute bollox is spoken on this site sometimes.
Villain Of The North
just sometimes? I am sure if you check you will find a healthy dose of bollox most days, everyone is guilty of making a post that at least one other person will find to be bollox. but that is what this forum is all about, the freedom to talk bollox. Happy with the loan, not been happy with hughes, still 3 weeks to go, we will get some more in, UTV
steff_the_villan
bollox bollox bollox. There you go Steff :-)
Villain Of The North
There's a lot of testosterone about guys.
Gazvilla
Everyone wants SWP? I don't. Over-rated rare goal scorer hyped up to the ceiling - Find someone under rated and surprising. Duff was always better than SWP at Chelski - and he's struggled since. SWP is struggling already. Vassell had many faults, but he was always in there fighting. SWP would be another of the go missing brigade too often for me. I like good players who are workers too. Come back soon Luke Moore - the most exciting effective new signing to date as far as I am concerned. SWP maybe take him on loan to prove me wrong.
stennyvilla
Here Here Stennyvilla - well said - SWP is not worth a 10 Mill gamble. We need players that are used to fighting for their spot in the team - Ashly Young fits the bill and so does Bardsley, although he couldn't get into the Ranger team by all accounts.
Steve64k
difference is that SWP is proven at some level and we know what he is all about. My logic is fine, if you take a player from a club that would prefer to keep him then he is not a reject (for example nugent) - like you say some bollox does get written. Good luck to the lad i hope he is brilliant but with all the rumours on transfer budgets etc surely we can expect a bit more activity?
tylervilla
Understand he's highly rated by the United fans. Lets hope he's the real deal.
