'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Villa Youngster Sidelined

Villa midfielder Craig Gardner will be out of action for up to two weeks after picking up a groin strain in the Chelsea game on Tuesday night.

Martin O'Neill told the official site: 'He's got a groin problem and it looks as if he'll be out for a couple of weeks. The medical staff are assessing it at the moment. It's unfortunate, but he's hopefully not out for as long as we first feared, but he's going to be out for a while.'

'Craig's been doing really well. He's refreshing, he's young, he wants to get into the side and he wants to do really well. He's made a very favourable impression on the team and obviously on myself.'

why do all villa players get injured v chelsea
mcgoo
MON certainly see's something in this kid that I dont. I'll admit he has improved in the last few games, but I dont see him as the answer. Him and Mccann in the middle looks a very poor central midfield on paper.
DeanoVilla
He had started well against Chelsea, looked far more settled. He is another that is still young and learning, looks like he could be a very good and tough midfielder as he progresses.
The Fear
yea if only we had someone like Lee Hendrie of Stoke who could fill that role!!
jonah
Like Gardner alot.He seems to be a all out combative midfielder.May not be as tricky or as skilled as Davis/Petrov but think he will be very valuable to us.Have to say rate him higher than Osbourne!
sk1nner80
Don't rate him on what I've seen (same with Osbourne) but it may not be fair to judge yet as we're having to play some young players too often. We badly need some players in this window

have to say that i rate osbourne higher than gardner from what i`ve seen. think osbourne could be a future star, combative, covers a lot of ground and not too bad passingskills. still just a raw talent, though..

Give the lads a chance..they are barely out of nappies!!

I remember seeing an awful lot of criticism of Ridgewell last season, after he broke into the team, and much of that has evaporated now. Maybe we need to give our youngsters more credit for playing as well as they do without the experience they need. They would get a more gentle bedding-in period at many clubs, and we should remember that they aren't the finished article yet.

The Injuries are getting more and more a part of the season, not portioning blame but this started last season and has criied on with the new manager. WTF is wrong with the players, training, boots.

I think that Craig shows promise. He's certainly developed and improved his all-round game since earning a starting spot last season, and up until the unfortunate injury on Tuesday evening I thought he was playing well. Time is on his side, and he obviously has a lot still to learn, but I personally have liked what I've seen from him to date.

Ridgy still has a few dodgy moments per game. Cahill has been found out a few times this season too....its tough at the top, lets hope they learn quickly!

All the youngsters need time to develop and prosper. They are all still learning the game.
