'If It's Football, It's Vital'

O'Neill's Reaction To Chelsea Draw

Martin O'Neill said after the 0-0 draw with Chelsea:

'The players showed plenty of guts and deserved to take something from the game.'

He added, on the official site: 'I thought we showed fantastic courage and great determination. I was delighted with the attitude. To be perfectly honest, I've been delighted with the attitude for most of the season. We might have lost it with the two Chelsea chances late on, but that would have been extremely cruel. That's the way things have been going for us recently, but tonight we got something from the game and we deserved it. We didn't have too many chances, but Liam Ridgewell might even have won it with the glancing header late on. For a split second I thought it had gone in.'

'Chelsea had a couple of chances themselves. One early on from Drogba that he might have done better with. But overall we stuck to the task manfully and I thought we deserved it. The attitude we showed was exactly the attitude we showed at Stamford Bridge earlier this season. When you look at it, we've played them twice in the league and they haven't beaten us. We still haven't won in ten matches, but this will give the players a psychological lift as we head into two tough games against Manchester United.'

A nice moment on Sky was when the interviewer Geoff Shreaves said to O'Neill, what did you of that? O'Neill thought for a moment and said with a bemused smile on his face, 'I don't really know!!!' You really can't help but warm to O'Neill, what a character!

Talking of the game, our pre-game poll asked for your predictions and this time 29% got it right saying we'd draw, 23% said we'd win and the remaining 48% said we'd lose - miserable sods!!!

just a couple of creative players and we'll be fine.

And only two "delighteds" in his after match comments :-)

He realy is a class act, I had us down for a win, Ridgewell nearly granted my wish, onwards and upwards
steff_the_villan
And a couple of decent strikers samtozer, lets not forget that.

The boys done good!!! Some great performances last night, I thought Angel worked his bollokcs off for the team
jonah
haha...beat the filter again, piece of psis :-)

Great team performance and 110% effort from everyone. The quality was a bit lacking at times, but we knew that. I thought Bouma and McCann were outstanding and Cahill gets better every time I see him

I dont think we have really looked like scoring for about 10 games now. Ok we've fluked the odd goal and scored a penalty or 2 but we just never look like we are going to score and thats a big worry! 2 strikers and 2 creative midfielders in Jan please Mr Lerner, else we're buggered!
DeanoVilla
they did play their hearts out it seems....
ernshaw
Played their hearts out and not a single shot on target, sigh....

Thought Bouma played superb, looked really comfortable and has made me have second thoughts about Shaun Wright Phillips coming to us. Angel is just simply not up to Premiership football, the guy cant/chooses not to run, close down pass to a team mate.
mackaavfc
even though it was a 0-0 draw am very happy

at home 1 shot on target against 21 thankfully the 1 goal Chelsea needed never came, God alone knows why. We were set up as a team fighting their last gasp in a desperate relegation fight and O'Neills still a Giant ? The squad just isn't as bad as the results show, it just isn't. Those that played in general performed superbly, especially some often openly criticised by fans, whilst some supposed improvements hid so hard even there own team mates couldn't find them I enjoyed the battling performance, I enjoyed the way some players played against real quality, but the tactics used are archaic, the team selection was very negative and high risk, 1 goal and the flood gates would have opened. For me we are going further and further backwards, and if we sell the likes of Baros, and replace them with Harewood or Hartson I for one won't be rejoicing, the 80's have gone real managers live in the New Millenium
avfc48
Harewood and Hartson? Might not be the 80's but what planet are you on?!!
Gazvilla
If we had a half decent striker we would have loads more points than we currently have to show for the performances this season.
col8
We deserved the point, but I still look upon it as two points lost.
