Martin O'Neill - Help On The Way

Martin O'Neill has promised his young squad 'I'm doing everything I can to bring in players who can help you.'

He told the official site: 'It's at times like this when you know you should be resting four or five of these players and they're having to plough through this. Eventually, if they can come through it, this will have stood them in good stead. I'm going to try to improve the squad if at all possible. We need some players in because the younger lads are having to do too much really.'

O'Neill inherited a very young squad and unlike Manchester United all those years back who had a freak amount of great young talent, Villa don't have much in the way of experienced senior pro's to help the 'kids' through. Now some injuries have kicked in he has found himself using youngsters like 19-year-old Isaiah Osbourne who are really players for the future.

O'Neill continued, 'They're having to grow up maybe three times as quickly as they would do normally. Its should eventually stand them in good stead, but it's something we have to address and we need some players to help them. First of all I want players capable of sending us up the league and capable of doing the job for quite some time. That might not be as easy as we think, but we're definitely looking to try to strengthen.'

'But I think we've always been keen to do something because I've known for some months that the squad needs strengthening.'

Isaiah Osbourne will make or break in to the team during the current lack of quality players, have to remember he is still only 19...

Even Gabby is far from ready for regular first team action. He, like the other youngsters, has still so much to learn and take onboard, despite his flying start over the early months of the season.

yeah, that was my point col8, he is young, has loads of potential and loads of time to make his mark, at the moment him and others aren't really ready but MON has little choice but to play them, although hendrie was another option not taken I guess. Agree with glensider as well, Gabby could be awesome for us, but he isn't at the stage where he should have played every game, I still say Baros should be up front,as someone else said in the forum, he has something like (wihtout checking 27 goals in 47 odd games at International level, so if you get him the right service, he will score
The Fear
Performance has slipped back more or less to where we were at the back-end of last season. Inconsistent play- good to bad over 90 minutes plus too many mistakes and terrible final touch and finishing. All the signs of a team beginning to lack confidence. A good result from the Chelsea game will restore some of that confidence. Let's hope for a full house -although I suspect there'll be over 10,000 empty seats.

I agree Baros should be up front. We do have strikers capable of scoring goals, unfortunately at the moment we dont have the midfield capable of providing them. Well there is one, goes by the name of Hendrie!

Baros should be up front driving the team bus.

I wouldnt be suprised if kids like Osbourne dissapeared back into the reserves for 12 months once the squad is strengthened and then come back even stronger.
DeanoVilla
I can see that Deano, would do him the world of good, our situation has meant too much pressure on very young shoulders, but they should be applauded for the effort they have made, they have done us proud with their effort if nothing else. UTV

Baros bought the game alive when he came on against Chelski, should have had him on earlier, good result against one of the big boys

4th January and still no mention of a signing.......

Get the new faces in Martin. We're ready to greet them.
