Petrov - O'Neill Is The Man

Petrov - O'Neill Is The Man

Stiliyan Petrov says he trusts Villa boss Martin O'Neill to bring in the right men to bolster the squad and says he came to Villa as they convinced him of their ambition.

Hmmm, maybe he needs to now convince the fans that he is good enough to fulfil all of our ambitions? Little bit more talk on the pitch perhaps?

The Bulgarian and former Celtic midfielder said: 'The club told me their ambition would be high when I came here, so I am waiting to see what will happen. The transfer window is coming, so I hope the manager and owner will get some players and we will get better and better. I am 100 per cent sure he is going to do everything possible in his hands to turn this club around and get this club where it needs to be.'

He also sees no reason why Villa can't beat Chelsea on Tuesday night (8pm kick off, thanks for that Sky)

'If we don't start picking up points, it could be a long hard season but it is up to us to change that. Every game is hard and we don't know when we are going to win and when we are going to lose at the moment. But we treat every game as the same. We know we have some hard games coming up against Chelsea, followed by our two games against Manchester United, but we are going to go for it and try to win. I don't see why we can't beat Chelsea. Every game you have a chance, as long as you play well and keep a clean sheet.'

Petrov currently has a hamstring problem and is thought to be unlikely for the game v Chelski.

Agree that Petrov should be doing his talking on the pitch, he should be more worried that he may lose his place to one of the new signings with the way he is playing at the moment.

He's spot on when he says that we have to begin picking up points. Hopefully the new faces that he is expecting will begin to arrive over the course of the next week or so, even if it will actually be the summer before most of the business takes place.

We still haven't seen the best of Stan, and he no longer has the excuse of settling in. He needs to improve 100% over the 2nd part of the season or else it could be his place under threat by any new signings.

Yes, I agree with the comments, Stan can certainly 'talk the talk' now we are waiting to see if he can 'walk the walk'. To date, apart from the first few games, I don't think he has played to his reputation. But, he is right about us needing experienced support for out talented youngsters.

Stan is working himself harder than he should with the injury he is carrying, a larger squad would allow players who are suffering from injuries and still playing to get the rest they so badly need, stating the bleedin obvious maybe, but some people just don't understand how carrying an injury effects ability.
