'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Martin O'Neill's Reaction To Loss

Martin O'Neill after the 2-1 defeat to Charlton said on the official site:

'We went from almost winning it to losing in the space of 60 seconds.'

'That was a very frustrating and disappointing afternoon. We could have had all three points and should have had at least one, but we go home empty handed. We had the perfect opportunity to nick the victory just two minutes from time with Gabby's chance. If he'd scored, we'd almost certainly be celebrating a victory. Instead it went the wrong side of the post and almost immediately they scored a winner that just summed up the way things are going for us at the minute.'

'I felt even down to ten men that we never let our heads drop and I can't fault the players for commitment, but we're still looking for a win to end this poor run and we have to go again on Tuesday. (v Chelsea). We all know there's a fine line between victory and defeat in this game and we saw that today. This was a game I was confident we could take something from and a game we should not have lost.'

Honest bunch of lads!

Don't panic! Don't panic! We're still 2 points ahead of Sheff Utd....er... blimey. Lets hope we see 3 new quality faces by the end of January or it could well be squeaky bum time until May.
Pike
very negative and yet again he refused to come out for a Sky Interview. O'lleary was branded a coward for doing that as then could it be he was frying a few arses Mellbergs and Barry's maybe

You'd like to think so after this result.

A bit of a rant - I know things are going to change in Jan, and I do have complete confidence in O'Neil, just I am kinda baffled about a few things going on recently: 1. Why is Barry, our most creative player and in such excellent form, playing left back when we have Bouma? I reckon if O'Neil was voting in that recent poll on Bouma he'd vote 'No' (he isn't any good). 2. What is going on with Petrov? He just wasn't involved at all. I've just remembered that he was injured but in that case why expect him to produce the goods today? 3. We have such a small squad yet Lee Hendrie is allowed out on loan; I know he's volatile and unpredictable but I feel he is likely to do a better job than Gardner/Osbourne can do at the moment. Anyway... Roll on January.

what is going on?? really....is a plummet down the table any kind of incentive for players to come? bit negative i know, but so are the results.

avfc48 - He did do a interview for the BBC though
Thegreatdando
and there is an interview with him on the SkySports website....

Davis and Petrov two goalscoring and creative midfielders both playing on the wings...? Surely one or both should be playing in the middle in place of Gardner. Badly in need of reinforcements in this transfer window.

This was arguably the one really big worrying result/performance of our disappointing run. Too much 'shades of last season' for my liking. The one thing though that is so, so different from last seasons efforts, is that we now have MON and RL working in tandem, and in those two we have people who have been well aware of our failings since day one, and in just a mere couple of days time finally have the much needed opportunity to really begin putting this club back on track.

One bright note is I thought Davis played better than I have seen for a long time. But like quite a few others on here I am beginning to get worried now. Stop and think what our points tally would be if it wasn't for the number of penalties we have been awarded!!!

The thing is, if we had had such a run with O'Dreary we would be going mad, however as we've got MO'N and we know he's capable of helping us get him out of this sticky situation, we are being rather reserved at the moment.

The wheels on the bus...... have well and truely fell off! Lets hope for some big signings in Jan to get us rolling again!

no just needed a jack to get them back on, could do with some new spares though wheels have taken a bit of damage. UTV

Points thrown away. Worrying. We should never have lost this one.
