'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The Villa Times 27/12/2006

Mark Delaney has suffered a set back to his knee injury and admits the timing couldn't have been worse. 'I am still not happy with my knee. Maybe it needs more time to recover. I am coming to the end of my contract this summer, so the timing of the injury could not have been worse.'

One report has linked Aston Villa with Colchester right-back Greg Halford. Halford is at the end of his contract in the summer.

Lille are being linked with Aston Villa midfielder Eric Djemba-Djemba. Jumper Jumper told his site: 'I want to take a little minute of my precious time to try to make clearer my situation because there have been a number of rumours about my career and transfer. I am actually in Europe where I will meet with clubs interested in my services.'

Interesting to see if Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie now returns to Villa Park or if Stoke (or anyone) are able to extend his loan or take him permanently. Officially lil' Lee has played his last game for the Potters, but City manager Tony Pulis admits there is a bit of confusion over the situation. Full article: Lee Hendrie, Back or Gone?

With a run of eight games without a win for Villa, Martin O'Neill has promised the Villa faithful: 'We'll get back to winning ways for you.' Adding: 'We're not getting the rub of the green at the moment. Famous last words, but I think it will turn. We've got to keep believing what we were doing is the right thing. The crowd were fantastic again - the travelling support has been fantastic all season.' Full article: O'Neill Promise To Fans

Vital Villa asked who should Villa buy in the January transfer window. 49% said Charlton's Darren Bent, 36% Robbie Keane, 8% David Nugent, 3% Phil Bardsley, 2% Shaun Maloney, 2% Curtis Davies.

Our latest poll asks who is our the best unsung Villa hero? (By mackaavfc) Kevin Richardson, Alan Wright, Shaun Teale, Derek Mountfield, Gary Parker or Kevin Gage.

Vital Villa asked, in a poll suggested by Jonah, where will Villa finish the season? 4% said in the top 4. 5% top six, 62% believe we will be top ten, 12% bottom 10, 10% bottom five and 7% say where we finish all depends on the January transfer window.

Thought for the day: A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour.

So not much festive cheer around the Mark Delaney household. A new right full back is an absolute must either in January or during the summer. Cant see the club taking yet another risk by offering MD a new contract when his existing one runs out in June 2007.

Glensider-the level of truthiness in your post is quite high. Delaney, when fit, has been good for us. Unfortunately, I cannot remember the last time he was fit.

Halford has been linked with Spurs in the past. Looks a good prospect.

Condolencies to Mark, what a pain in the arse (sorry knee) just when he is needed most, not looking good for the chap.

This young kid Bardsley up at O.T. is highly rated. Might be worth a look, even if we only are able to get him on loan.
