'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Delaney Hints At Exit

Mark Delaney has hinted that he might have to leave Aston Villa in order to get first team football.

The Wales international defender would like to stay at Villa but it appears the club have made no move to sort out a new contract with his current deal running out in the summer.

He has been linked to former club Cardiff City and to Wales second team (!) Blackburn to join up with Mark Hughes.

He told Sky Sports News: 'It's obviously down to the club. I've spoken to them about it. They're obviously not willing to do much so I've got to try and work out what's best for me. If that's away from here, then it's away from here but, hopefully, it's here.'

The right back added: 'It's difficult to take. I've given as much as I can to the club. Sometimes, it's just not enough with different management and different strategies, and a different way of going about things. I'm 30 in May and I need to be looking after myself now, towards the end of my career.'

Delaney has been very unlucky in the last few seasons picking up a fair share of injuries - usually from bad tackles it has to be said. The shame of it is if he had stayed fit, he would have probably made a very good captain for Villa, he certainly gives 100% effort in the games he plays in.
