Villa Links To Barton and Stearman

The gossip sheets are at it, this time the Daily Mail, or is that the Tory Mail I forget, say that Aston Villa, Middlesvilla and Newcastle United are all lining up a bid for Manchester City midfielder Joey Barton.

Barton has a 'colourful' life on and off the pitch but has impressed this season having scored five goals and brought himself closer to the England set up, despite slating fellow players for being pampered and spoilt in a paper article this weekend!

Not sure what substance there is in the links as Barton signed a new contract at Citeh, so this is probably just press talk especially as boss Stuart Pearce has always stated the midfielder is not for sale.

Another link is to Leicester City's young defender Richard Stearman who reports reckon will cost around £750,000 to prize him away from the Packet of Crisps Stadium.

With Barton's off field antics, would you want him at Villa?

Not too much to get excited about there

Not sure about Barton, we need some bite in the team but do we need the baggage he seems to have or have I judged him via the press?!
The Fear
Seen Barton a few times and I really rate the guy! Okay he has his off field antics but he is a class player who can offer us more drive in the centre of the park. A great signing if he comes!
PaulG
Can't see it happening but would be a great sigining. We miss a bit of bite in the middle. I think the team are too nice at times. Sometimes you need to rough teams up a bit, which we rarely do. He also gets goals which our centre midfielders struggle to do.
DixonTheVillain
Get him he is quality. Good engine, hard in the tackle, great shot on him and is a leader. Off field not great but neither were people like george best and paul gascoigne and they did ok.
tylervilla
MON could be the one to tame Barton!
merlin
Neill, Bridge, SWP, Barton and Keane will do nicely!! How about this for a team. Sorenson, Neill, Mellberg, Laursen, Bridge, SWP, Barton, Petrov, Barry, Keane, Gabby. Europe here we come!!
DixonTheVillain
Lot of baggage with Barton.

Dixon The Villain - Great team!!! Are you really Martin O'Neill??? and your giving us an incline on who you are buying in the transfer window???
PaulG
I cant see too much in the Joey Barton rumours. The Richard Stearman talk is probably closer to home. Know little about him, but he's recognised by many so called experts as an up and coming young talent.

O well sat least Barton aint as wild as Viv Wright from Dream Team
Christo
O'neill has never had Millions to spend, when he has gone into the Market it has been for tried and tested players who are currently "out of form" and sorted them out.

Barton would be an excellent buy, but i just do not see it happening.

Wish I was PaulG..I'd love to have the transfer kitty at my disposal. I think we could get the above for 20mill. We can but dream!
DixonTheVillain
Your are joking! I don't want that Barton scum come to our club! Barton completely disrepect the villa fans when he scored against us a few weeks back.
eddie_devlin1874
eddie_devlin1874 I'm sure you'd forgive him once he scored his first goal!
DixonTheVillain
It seems to me if we could not get someone like Owen Hargreaves, which we won't as it seems he MU bound then Barton could be a good alternative. Could be he is reining in on his behaviour overall, and he does have some class.
DoogieTyBrenin
Leicester fan I sit next to at work says Stearman is definate premiership quality, so it sounds like it could be a good bit of business at 750k.

I've been saying Barton for months, Bridge too. Let's not get excited though...alot of this is hype but my top 3 would be Barton, Bridge and Defoe, followed by Yakubu (he's big and strong-take the heat off Gabby a little), Milner and Routledge. Fear - yes the press are giving Barton a rep' - which he 99% deserves but he has kept out of trouble recently and not tried to burn a team mates eye out for yonks!?!?!? Let's give him a chance if he comes.
koolbill
Barton will probablt leave Citeh should they be relegated, not as ridiculous a suggestion as it may at first sound. Otherwise I would imagine to remain there indefinitely.
