Martin O'Neill No Fan Of Jan Sales

Martin O'Neill has spoken about the upcoming January sales and to put it bluntly, he isn't a fan!

'Do I like the transfer window? Not particularly. I think what it does do is point everyone into this supposed window of opportunity - and sometimes you are panicked into things. After January 31 a manager is not able to do anything until the end of the season. He has that in his mind.'

'Before the system was okay. I am not a fan of this one - and I am not so sure many people are - but whilst it is in place, you can't do anything about it. You are not going to change the transfer window this season but I am sure people will be lobbying to try and do something about it and hopefully that will be successful in the not too distant future.'

Adding 'In January I think it is difficult to get the quality players you think are capable of doing a big job for the club for the next four or five years. It is also difficult to get other players in. Everyone is doing the same thing but we will do our utmost to try and strengthen in January because we need to.'

The transfer window has certainly put more pressure on the smaller clubs who always relied on transfers throughout the season to keep them solvent. I also miss the constant speculation and the 'will they, won't they' with player moves!

anyone else prefer the old system?
The Fear
The old system was much much better. I dont like this new system one bit as it just over inflates players values, as there will maybe be 1 or 2 quality players available in Jan, and 7 or 8 clubs after them.
DeanoVilla
also doesn't help europe playing teams who want to buy to support their league campaign while their other players are getting nackered away from the country.
selbydate
The old system was much fairer for everyone. I think prices go up in January, because everyone is desperate to get players in
Geordie_Villa
I dont think ANYBODY likes this system except for the faceless plutocrat (was going to say beaurocrat but i cant spell it) who though it up in the first place!! Can anybody even remember why it was introduced? coz I'm buggered if I can.
jonah
To anoy the crap out of us!!!!
Villain Of The North
The current system is annoying and leads to a lack of activity due to people being ineligible, etc. It also puts less pressure on the smaller clubs who currently have to prepare for injuries and suspensions by having a squad their wage bill can't afford.
Tierney
I dont like the current way I guess the only good thing about it is that it gives the transfer window something to look forward too
Christo
Does any club like it? I doubt it very much. Too much pressure is put on clubs to cram whatever activity they can, in a ridiculously short space of time.
glensider
It also makes long periods on champ manager furstrating.
tylervilla
I would read in to the comments, that we will not see to much activity at VP in January?????
voiceoftheholte
I would agree voth, I think he has made it clear that he will not be panic buying, so one maybe two if we are lucky, or is this MONs way of saying to the rest of the clubs that he is not going to be taken for a prat just because he has money to spend. One things for sure we need a few more goals, whether that is by a new striker or a better supplier to the existing strikers I don't mind, but we havn't got that long to wait, and so nice to hear that Moore is making good progress.
