Blue Nose Defender To Villa?

Blue Nose Defender To Villa?

According to the Daily Mirror, Martin O'Neill is set to bid £3 million bid for Small Heath defender Matthew Upson.

Apparently the Porn barons, sorry, meant the board of Blues realise they'll have to cash in on the centre back as he has just 18 months left on his contract and has turned down all efforts to tie him down to a 'lucrative' new five year deal.

The 27-year-old former Arsenal man, who has 7 England caps, has only recently returned from injury and obviously see's his future away from the Sty. Well, you would wouldn't you?

So, what do you think? Personally I can never give a fig where players come from as long as they give 100% for the cause at Villa. I know some questioned the signing of Chris Sutton saying he was a blue nose (which to me was ridiculous as he only spent one season there and spent half the time on the treatment table).

he's a good defender, but do we really need a defender at the moment?

We dont need a centre half. We can already afford to play our best centre half at right back and have our 2nd best on the treatyment table and still put out a decent team. I just dont like Upson.... he certainly doesn't make me feel 'Evergreen'

Was an England international but seems to pick long term injuries too much.

I trust in the MON to know what he is doing, I also trust in the popular press to be full of **** and link us with all and sundry, and I don't recall Upson been good enough to stop us knocking them down ; )

I don't think we should be giving small heath any of Randy's hard-earned cash. But I don't think it will even get that far: hapless bluenose will break something or other before January, guaranteed. Why not Pressley? He probably has two more years in him, could dust even John Terry off, and is already used to playing in claret. But really, I trust MON to know what's best for us.

I've no problems with Upson but do we really need another centre-back?

Couldn't give a monkey's about the Small Heath connection, that to me is completely irrelevant. 1), Do we need another central defender?, 2) Is he good enough, and any better than what we've got? Cant see it happening whatever though. Small Heath wouldn't sell him to our good selves.
