Jlloyd Samuel To Fight For Place

Jlloyd Samuel, now fully recovered from his injury problems, says he is determined to prove himself at Villa and convince Martin O'Neill he deserves a new contract.

The left back, who just a few seasons ago was an ever present and touted as an England international, has had two frustrating seasons of injuries but he has told his icons website: http://www.icons.com/home.html

'Martin O'Neill has said he would like to speak to me about my future at Aston Villa. I'm just going to have a chat and see what happens. I am fit and I know what I'm capable of, it's a timing thing now. I'm just so happy to be fit. I think the manager would like to see more of me, and I want to show him what I can do. I just need games, and hopefully when I get a few I'll be able to stay in the team.'

'I have been playing for the reserves recently, but our game against the Chelsea reserves was called off last week due to a waterlogged pitch. It was a bit disappointing as I'd like to have as many games as possible under my belt. I am feeling back to 100 per cent fitness now, but it's a bit different to the match fitness you get when you're playing for the first team. The pace isn't quite as quick and you don't run for the whole match. There's only one way of getting that fitness back, and that's by playing games for the senior team.'

Jlloyd seems to split the Villa fans, personally I think if he can re-create the form he showed two seasons ago, he'll be a match for most left-backs in the Prem. If... all up to him now I guess.

i completely agree mr fear, he can be quality again, if delaney can stay fit too we shouldn't leak too many goals

funny how the fans turned on Jlloyd, the appearances he made last year were mostly with him carrying an injury, we write people off far too quickly.
The Fear
Totally gree with the other comments. He was a good left back and can be again. Look at the criticism Barry used to get...

I dont think he has been written off quickly. He has been poor for over 3 years now. That said, his return to fitness seemed to give Freddy a kick up the arse on Monday, so its all good news.

Competition for places is always healthy. It's good to have him and Bouma vying for the left back spot

Well he's definitely got the required attitude, and he's certainly not short on ability, so I say very good luck to him. A fully fit and firing on all cylinders JLloyd would be a huge plus for the club, adding much needed competition for places. Hopefully all supporters will get behind him, give him a much deserved break from petty abuse, and you never know. We might just get to see the JLloyd of a couple of seasons back.

Jlloyd Samuel was a good prospect 3 years ago and is still young, but can we wait another year ?
Fletch
all the players under o'leary didnt play to there best (ironically, apart from JPA in his wonder-season) he needs a decent shot under a good manager.

JLloyd has probably still got a B6 future only because Freddie Bouma hasn't proved as yet to be the signing we all expected and hoped for.
